Obama is not going to resign. Nor should he. He was entrusted by us and the American people to four years and he should be given that time to prove himself.
There will be plenty of fights in the next two years.
A primary challenge will NOT succeed and will only better enable a Palin Presidency. It's not worthwhile to give up on him now or swear you'll not vote for him, etc. And no, Obama and Palin will NOT be the same. We learned that lesson in 2000.
Yes, this is a shitty situation for everyone involved, including Barack Obama.
No one really likes the deal, Obama doesn't seem happy about it, but reports do say that this deal could do some good for the economy.
Tellingly, economists and Democratic policy experts were largely pleased with the deal. Forecasting firms on Tuesday upgraded their estimates for growth and job gains over the next two years. Economists at Goldman Sachs, who have been more negative and more accurate than most Wall Street forecasters lately, called the deal "significantly more positive" than they had anticipated. And left-leaning policy experts said the package did more to create jobs than they had thought possible after the Republicans’ midterm election victories. Robert Greenstein, Lawrence Mishel and John Podesta — who run prominent Washington research groups that range from liberal to staunchly liberal — all offered praise for the package.
It will put some food on the table for the least fortunate when they really need it.
It gives the Democrats two years to get their shit together about the Bush tax cuts and prepare for the long-awaited epic showdown. Clearly, they weren't prepared this time around because they were busy getting other shit done, like Health Care Reform, Financial Reform, Credit Card Reform, a Stimulus to prevent a great depression, Student Loan Reform, and many other important pieces of legislation.
Now, they won't have to worry about trying to pass anything big because it won't get past the teabaggers in control of the house and they can set up the political battles that will define the 2012 elections.
But Obama realizes that if he needs any sort of economic stimulus, it has to come from this congress in the next few weeks. To have a chance at getting DADT repealed, he has to do it now or it will have to wait for the courts strike it down.
If everyone is screaming about unemployment in January, he can't expect the teabagger congress to do anything without extorting the american people for more than what's on the table now.
Yes, it sucks but I'm willing to defer to Obama on this one. I voted for him and I voted to trust in his leadership for a full FOUR YEARS. We need the economy to be doing as well as possible for us all to have a chance in 2012 and we will have a whole two years to stage fights and political battles.
We can spend two years preparing for the tax cut battle. We can clear the legislative calendar and make them filibuster anything we want repeatedly. We can dare them to shut down the government or force a global default.
Yes, it sucks to have to pay off the wealthy to help the poor but it may be an acceptable price to pay for now. It's not the end of the world.
There, I defended the President we all voted to elect.
