Lo and behold!
Our friends over at that bastion of journalistic integrity have piled on with a story about the newest crisis to hit the Beltway:
Raising the direst alarm yet, the Obama administration warned fellow Democrats on Wednesday that if they defeat the big tax-cut compromise detested by many liberals, they could jolt the nation back into recession.
OH NOOOOOOOOOOOOEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!
Follow me on the flip as we debunk the latest bullshit from neo-Pravda the AP the White House.
When you are President of the United States in these post-9/11 days, nearing the 2012 apocalypse, there is one thing to keep in mind, and that is if there is not a crisis, you need to create one. (This is a correlate and extension of Rahmbo's belief that you should never let a crisis go to waste.)
Not to fear, because I know all us Kossacks have weathered these storms before, back when the Republicans were proclaiming that Social Security was in a funding "crisis" and we had to privatize. We saw how well that worked out for them. Now the same interests are back, and they are trying to create another insidious "crisis" parade once again.
Don't fall for it.
- First of all, this is not effective stimulus.
Let me repeat that.
Giving tax cuts to the wealthy is not stimulus because the rich will not put the money in the U.S. economy but will either park it offshore or invest it in the stock market.
So Mr. President, if you are really concerned about the economy, you should be proposing to give $800 billion to the states, instead of the wealthiest Americans, like Paul Krugman suggested back when you were doing this the first time.
- Second, and most important, the trojan horse attack on Social Security is despicable. Obama's attempt to whitewash it by proclaiming that if we don't defund Social Security there will be a new economic crisis is really beyond the pale.
- Finally, screw Obama's estate tax capitulation. See point # 1. Let me repeat it yet again in case you missed it: giving even more money to the ultra-wealthy is not going to repair the economy.
Can someone explain to me why the White House is ONLY NOW going bananas over this? Why they weren't focused on this in the middle of November? THIS is their rollout of an attempt to marshal support for this piece of shit? A crisis?
Did they seriously believe they could just wave a magic wand and all of sudden all Democrats would suddenly get on board with whatever shit they proposed, no matter how much of a mess it created politically and policywise?
They look weak and desperate. And I hope this thing fails and teaches them a lesson for the next two years.
Mr. Obama, pull the plug on this disaster, now. Go back to the drawing board, because Americans and especially are progressives are not buying this fabricated crisis BS.
To the mattresses!
**UPDATE: The bastion of journalistic integrity has actually now changed the slant of the story from Larry Summers' "crisis" to one proclaiming that Democrats will fold. I guess we all know where to get the party line these days. ALL HAIL THE NEO-PRAVDA!!
