US and China conspired against Europe in Copenhagen climate talks, according to WikiLeaks cables [Der Spiegel]
Confidential US diplomatic cables published by WikiLeaks now show just how closely the world's biggest polluters -- the United States and China -- colluded in the months leading up to the conference. And they give weight to those who have long suspected that the two countries secretly formed an alliance.
Kerry told his hosts that Washington could understand "China's resistance to accepting mandatory targets at the United Nations Climate Conference, which will take place in Copenhagen."
According to a cable from the US embassy in the Chinese capital, Kerry outlined "a new basis for 'major cooperation' between the United States and China on climate change."
Huh, that's funny.
And then that weird thing happened where we didn't get any kind of climate change bill passed through the Senate this year.
So if one of these events transpired on purpose, with the knowledge of the President, could it be that the other did as well?
I mean, forgive me if I'm going out on a limb here, but I don't think it's that far fetched.
I was reading Time magazine today, with this unbelievably stupid article in it, wondering aloud whether it was even conceivable that fighting global warming could be a net plus for the economy.
Elite opinion seems to be incredulous about this. To me, it's obvious.
So tell me, why am I, or anyone else who cares about climate change, wasting time even paying attention to politics? Can anyone give me a good answer?
Wouldn't we all be better off if we took our organizing experience and did stuff that actually fixed climate change, instead of marching around and carrying on?
PayPal and Mastercard are huge companies, and are now inaccessible because of a few snot nosed punks on the Internet.
You're telling me that a much larger number of much more reasonable, sociable people couldn't get together to actually do something about climate change, instead of sitting around on their asses and making phone calls for people who, in the end, don't give a shit about us?
Instead of going to rallies and waving signs for people who aren't going to read them?
Instead of writing letters that are being managed by some 20-something ass-kissing careerist office aide, getting put in a pile and having form letters sent back?
You read that article, come back here, and tell me with a straight face that I can't get more done with my own two hands and a shovel than any of the assholes I worked so hard to elect can get done with all their power.
UPDATE
It's 4:30 AM on the West Coast and the American media doesn't appear to care about this. Weird, considering that the fate of human civilization hangs in the balance.
