In these tough economic times, billionaires should be giving to charity, not taking it from the government.

Dear Mr. President,

I am part of the generation that elected you to the presidency. I am also part of a young generation of people who were elected to office as a direct result of your vision of hope and change. We share the same belief that Americans should be working their way into the middle class, not falling out of it.

Mr. President, I have supported your work, admired your vision and worked to be the change we all wanted to see. In fact, I cannot tell you how honored I was to see my name listed on the same ballot as you when I first ran for office two years ago. It is precisely why I have such an issue with your compromise tax deal.

In these tough economic times, billionaires should be giving to charity, not taking it from the government.

I want to see the words "Made in America" again. To this day, my dad gets up at 2:30 in the morning six days a week to bring construction equipment across the state so it is in place when crews show up to pave the roads. Every year, there is less and less money to pave the roads. Without the economic stimulus money, my dad would not have been able to work last year and our family is grateful that he could.

My mother has been a nurse for nearly 35 years. Last year, she completed seven years worth of academic study and earned her PhD in nursing. She should be teaching the next generation of nurses. Instead, she is working per diem for $15.00 per hour.

I know what government cheese tastes like because I grew up on it. The millionaires who are about to be given a major Christmas bonus during the Great Recession don’t even know what color it is.

I am not immune to the realities of the Beltway and I do not envy your position.

But my people are begging for bread and Washington DC politicians just told them, "Let them eat cake."

I am still so honored to have had my name on the same ballot as you. But I did not run for office for myself; I ran for office for my people. And right now, they need your voice and they need your backbone.

The best way to reduce the deficit is to put Americans back to work. Putting food on the table of working America does far more to create jobs than giving Corporate America tycoons giant Christmas bonuses.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
