I'm a progressive/Centrist Dem, supported and worked for Obama from Day 1, and though I am not pleased about the Obama tax deal I grudgingly support it. (I think its pragmatic, the best we can get, has alot of goodies for Dems in return (unemployment, write offs, payroll tax cut, etc) and is ONLY 2 years so we can get economy going and then fight this all out in 2012.
But I get that I am sorely outnumbered on this here.
What I think should be analyzed is WHY do progressives hate the deal? Is it because the millionare tax credit blows a bigger hole in the deficit? (we never cared that much about deficts before, esp as to tax, spend, stimulus issues). Is it because of the estate tax breaks are too high (that would seem more rational). Or is it just the idea of we caved too soon to Repugs rather than "fight" them. This seems to be just a desire for blood lust rather that a real TACTICAL decision for 2011-2012 fight which is coming up. By voicing our reasons as to WHY we hate/are fighting the deal (which tactict itself no doubt weakens Obama (our current DEM president), maybe we can steer debate/get some changes.
UPDATE:
MAJOR SHOCK WAS ONLY 5 % say chief complaint as estate tax- thats seems to be what HOUSE DEMS are particularly upset about (publicly)
