"There's not too many pacifists on this site".
I've been told this, here on this site, quite a few times.
This site is one of the most weak I've ever seen when it comes to pacifism.
Kossacks, up to now haven't seen fit to acknowledge that the continuous wars we fight are bankrupting us.
Everybody here rails about various things, but nobody seems to mind that trillions are spent in useless wars, and to enrich the recession-proof military-industrial complex.
Up to now.
It seems you finally have woken up. What took you so long?
Finally, on this so-called "most influential" blog, I'm seeing people protesting against the wars that we fight. The endless wars whose overt and hidden costs are much higher than anyone here could believe.
I've been treated like a pariah on this site, because I have the audacity to say that if we don't stop these wars, the United States is going on down the toilet.
I've got an amusing supercilious attitude from people, and attitudes that "that's not really so important; we have to elect Democrats." Whatever that means.
Democrats, indeed. Democrats enthusiastically helped start the two completely stupid wars that we're in right now, they were completely complicit in both wars, they were stampeded by Bush and his cronies, they were told that they were not "patriotic" if they didn't vote for the obviously imminent threat of Saddam Hussein and his "weapons of Mass distraction".
Democrats marched like good little sheep, obedient to the drumbeat of their masters. They were told what to do, and did it. Democratic politicians were outmaneuvered, out shouted, outmatched, and generally used like the whores they are, like almost all politicians are, as we should know by now.
Just as we should know that if you want something political to happen, it has to start from the grassroots. The peace movement in the 60s didn't start in Washington; it started in many small communities far away from the Beltway.
That fact hasn't changed.
Now, in the last week or so, I'm seeing some diaries that say something along the lines of "Gee, we've suddenly noticed that these wars are bad, that they're beggaring the United States, that they're one of the main causes of our bankruptcy."
Welcome to sanity. Welcome to what's really happening.
And if, at last, the American people in general, and this site in particular, have seen fit to see the truth, that these "wars" that we fight including the "war in Iraq", the "war in Afghanistan", the "war on terror", the "war on drugs", and all the other "wars" are just a way to enrich special interests, all I can say is:
"I'm glad you finally wake up. Better late than never. I was thinking it was going to be never."
It's nice that the people here have finally recovered from their blindness and their ignorance, if they actually have. Me, I'm burnt out. I put this site at the bottom of my blogroll yesterday. It's sort of like an addiction that I'm frankly trying to break. But every so often, I make a futile attempt at trying to wake people up here.
I'm glad to see that it may, possibly, perhaps be happening.
