I refuse to let Bush-Bin Laden win. I refuse to let the military-industrial-corporate complex continue to profit from this war.
Back in 66, when I got out of the Army, I became a peace activist. Through my actions, and the actions of millions of other people, the case-Church amendment was passed. Although people don't like to mention it today, it was passed, ending the war in Vietnam, because of popular opinion. Because enough people got off their butts and got active that the government had to respond to them.
Here is what I am doing today to get back on the winning side; I'm dusting off my peace symbol and I'm going to stand in the street for an hour. Because it has to start somewhere, and if it has to start with me then so be it.
There is no way that this war is going to end through Washington's influence. We already know it can't be won; now it's even obvious that it can't be lost.
It can't be lost because it offers too much profit to the military industrial complex. The military and its services are eating up anything we may have that we may want to dedicate to social causes.
People here wonder how Obama will be reelected without grassroots support; after all, wasn't he elected because of popular support?
The answer is, he doesn't need popular support anymore; after giving a slice of the loaf to the grassroots supporters, he has given away the rest of the loaf to the military-industrial-corporate complex. He has officially shown allegiance to the real rulers of the world, and they will reward him with reelection.
So the war is now Obama's war officially. Yes, I want to hang it around his neck. Because he has bought it. Or rather, he arranged the deal, and we are buying it. We are buying it with our future and our children's future.
So I am actually going to dust off my peace symbol today, my big one on a stick, and I am going to go and stand in the street for an hour. Just to show people that there is a peace movement. There has to be a peace movement, otherwise this war will not end; it's just too profitable.
People here may call me a hippie; they might call me ineffective; I don't care. My visibility in the 60s, and the visibility of all the other people in the peace movement, caused the case-Church amendment to go through. I intend to be visible. Not just here in blogs, but on the street.
Wish me luck. I may be the only one out there, but it's got to start somewhere.
