"Their vehicle, called the ‘Citizens Council,’ is totally indefensible, as is segregation."
This is from Haley Barbour's 'clarification' of his recent whitewashing of Yazoo City's racial history.
But, did you know that Haley Barbour was involved in the same kind of filth only seven years ago?
The original newspaper article is no longer available online from the Clarion-Ledger. Luckily it was cached at ThinkProgress:
Republican gubernatorial nominee Haley Barbour says he will not ask for his picture to be removed from the national Web site of the Council of Conservative Citizens.
The site for the St. Louis-based group features Confederate flags and has links to articles such as "In defense of racism" and offers books on why the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. doesn’t deserve a national holiday and why Germany should be cleared of the "blood libel of the ‘Holocaust."‘
The "CCC" is an off-shoot of the original Citizens Council. Haley went to one of their rallies in 2003, spoke on their stage, and agreed to have his photo taken. He then called them indefensible and refused to request his photo be removed.
Haley with the diverse CCC. The CCC (Council of Conservative Citizens) is widely known to be an offshoot of the Citizens Council of previous decades. It is not a stretch to say they are the same thing.
Flash-forward to 2010. Citizens Council is, according to Barbour, "an organization of town leaders." After being called on his obvious revisionism, he calls the organization "indefensible."
The good Guvnah has a history and it smells bad. In a nutshell, over seven years Haley has -- appeared with racist group, gotten photo with them and put on website, then called the group indefensible; later whitewashes state and personal history, calls organization valuable, then indefensible.
There's one thing here that's indefensible. The Governor.
As always, your helpful Mississippi facts: While the governor is going around embarrassing the state, portraying a jolly ignorance of racism -- the state is roiling.
9.9% unemployment.
21.9% poverty rate.
33.8% obesity rate.

Haley Barbour... uhhh... 2012...
