The Capital’s Quiet
The Capital’s quiet, no pondering bills
No heated debates on society’s ills
Many things done, for good or for bad
Some Democrats happy, Republicans mad
Political gamesters could say no, no more
When 9/11 workers showed up at their door
They just wanted justice and relief of their hurt
From ten years of sickness and losing their shirts
When on Comedy Central there arose such a clatter
The Fox News agenda just no longer mattered
Caring for people who cared for others
Was not on Republican sisters and brothers’
Short list of reasons in running for office
They had to look out for the wealth of their bosses
For the “haves,” for the rich and for CEO giants
Who were always their number one favorite clients
No spending domestic, how big or how small
No Dream Act, no jobs bill, no healthcare for all!
On Wall Street, big Pharma, on big HMOs
Big Oil, and big Agra the bottom line shows
Transfer more jobs to overseas nations
Don’t increase the access to good education
Let cash piles flow in and out of elections
From anonymous donors with big corporate connections
The earth isn’t warming, there’s no carbon debt
The Dow dipped ten points we can’t buy a new jet!
But let’s be fair it could all be worse
Pre-existing condition’s no longer a curse
To the sick with no healthcare who just need a pill
Or help with exorbitant medical bills
START may keep nukes from the hands of some kooks
And there’s no body count from the Wikileaks’ truths
Don’t Ask Don’t Tell is a thing of the past
Gay soldiers can be who they are at long last
Iraq War battalions may soon come home
Just to ship out to another war zone
So much for the good, let’s face it we suck
Our spending on war still brings the most bucks
To KBR, Bechtel and General Dynamic
Who destroy and rebuild the lands where fanatics
Envy our fortunate way of life
Yes that’s what we’re told on the news every night
Now is the time for much more than reflection
To work towards a national thinking correction
When each homeless family has a roof overhead,
Real sense of security and hope for the best
As long as just one of us goes hungry tonight
There’s more to be done, don’t give up the fight!
