Being a bit wrapped up in the VA Dean campaign for the last week, I totally dropped the ball on setting up a location poll for our DC-area dKos happy hour this Friday - sorry.
The happy hour is still on for this Friday and we've got at least 15 Kossacks planning to attend including me (Maura in VA), Rita in DC, audibledevil, J from VJ, Theoria (just off the plane from Wyoming!), rgilly, jhehner, iowadem, romantotale, daria g, DCFD Rudi, Jamais Vu, Patience, Trapper John, valabor, and Steve G. Join us!
Since it's a bit late for an online vote now, I'm going to go with the place that got the most positive comments on our last happy hour related diary. If this goes well, we can do another and rotate to another suggested location. The winner for this Friday has the following strengths:
- Located two blocks from two different Metro stations (all colors covered!)
- Described as "intriguing, in a frightening kind of way" and "not even nice enough to be called a proper dive bar"
- Has dart boards and pool tables for those of us who'd rather do something while trying to make awkward conversation with people who we've only known online
- Happy hour specials include 26oz tap beer at $2.75 and rail drinks for $2.50 - best deals in town!
- Ultra-divey casual atmosphere, conducive to serious drinking and good conversation, since it's usually not too crowded
- Good digital jukebox with thousands of selections
- Its name is evocative of the result of Bush administration fiscal policies
Our dKos happy hour is likely to include weapons of mass destruction related program activities, a post-mortem on the Clark campaign, debate about whether Dean has a future, and if we're lucky, an in-person version of "What's Your F**cking Problem," all fueled by cheap liquor and availability of public transportation. Who'd want to miss this?
Keep reading to learn the location, and please comment below so we'll know whom to expect!
And the winner is...
Recessions
1825 L St NW
(basement of Lincoln Suites Hotel, next to Mackey's Irish pub near the corner of 19th and L NW)
(202) 296-6686
6:30 PM
Recessions is located just two blocks from both the Farragut North and Farragut West Metro stations.
Ample garage parking is available and if you arrive after 7, you can even try to snag a street spot. (Garage parking is only $5 after 5PM in most places on the block.)
Hope to see you there! Please comment below (in addition to poll) if you are coming so we'll know who to look out for.
And if you have any idea of what we should do to try to identify ourselves as Kossacks once we're there, please share!
