I think the "yes" votes for the healthcare bill are already there. I base this on a Washington Post report I just saw that says a Republican resolution to forbid the "deem and pass" approach to passing the bill was defeated 222-203. To pass healthcare reform, we only need 216. If you want to kill off a bill, why vote to make it easier to pass?
The resolution came from Democrat-turned-Republican Rep. Parker Griffith of Alabama, and it would have forced Speaker Pelosi to skip the deem and pass maneuver and go to a vote on the Senate bill.
The Post also had this to say
Some Democrats who are publicly undecided or appear to be leaning "no" on the health-care bill voted with their party Thursday, including Reps. Luis Gutierrez (Ill.), Brad Ellsworth (Ind.), Marcy Kaptur (Ohio) and Jason Altmire (Pa.). But several Democrats in the spotlight decided to vote with the GOP -- including Reps. Bart Stupak (Mich.), Frank Kratovil (Md.), Tom Perriello (Va.), Stephanie Herseth Sandlin (S.D.), Michael Arcuri (N.Y.) and John Adler (N.J.).
So, we know who the troublemakers really are, and the pressure on them in the next two days should be unrelenting.
