Washington State Democratic Governor, Christine Gregoire, came out swinging at Republican Attorney General Rob McKenna's singlehanded move to involve Washington State in the Republican move to use the court systems to stop or kill Health Care Reform.
You can hear her here, on the Dave Ross Show from today. She is filing a brief against him. Open warfare in the State House in Olympia! I love it, except that I'd love more for McKenna to back off and stop doing this to Washington State. You can also watch Chris Gregoire's response when she first heard about this:
This is MY Governor! I love how angry she got here. I get the feeling she's deadly serious about this.
If you're in Washington State and want to keep abreast of what's going on to oppose AG McKenna, you can join this Facebook group. It was just started and already has nearly 6000 members. McKenna made a very poor choice. It appears that he bought the Rasmussen polls hook, line, and sinker and believes that this will help him in 2012 when he runs for Governor. Instead, his office is being deluged with calls against his move (Call 360-753-6200 to voice your concerns if you're in Washington state) and he's energizing progressives in King/Pierce/Snohomish counties. If you can't win those counties, you can NOT win Washington state.
UPDATE: Obligatory "I can't believe this is on the Rec List". And, honestly, I can't believe it. I'll take it as a tribute to Chris Gregoire. I just can't get over how great she did in that interview and how supremely pissed she was! If you haven't, listen to her on Dave Ross, too. She's taking this one to heart.
UPDATE 2: In the comments someone made a great point about calling Gov. Gregoire and thanking her for standing up for us on HCR. I just did and the lines appear to be wide open (as opposed to McKenna's which are jammed!). Call Gov. Gregoire at 360-902-4111. You can also go to the Governor's website and submit a comment to her.
UPDATE 3: Two things. First, Washington State Democratic Party chair, Dwight Pelz, has filed a Public Records Request.
SEATTLE - Washington State Democratic Party Chair Dwight Pelz today filed a Public Records Request with the office of Attorney General Rob McKenna for "all documents relating in any way to your decision to join in bringing or threatening a lawsuit challenging some or all of the historic health-care legislation approved by the House of Representatives on March 21, 2010 ("Health Care Legislation")."
"The public has a right to know whether McKenna generated this idea himself or whether he is acting on behalf of the National Republican Party or the Insurance Industry," said Pelz. "We need to know more about his communication with the Southern Attorneys General and the Florida-based Republican law firm that has been hired to spearhead this effort."
In addition, Congressman Jay Inslee (D-WA-01) has an article up at Huffington Post attacking McKenna.
