I called the offices of the two senators from MA, John Kerry and Ted Kennedy, and talked to some staffers. The subject was the Hersh report about the administration's plans to bomb Iran.
The conversation was short and nice enough, since we're all on the same side. Or are we? Both staffers used the words, "well, that's just speculation," which means they bought the Bush line.
The over-under for tonight's ballgame is speculation. The weather for Easter Sunday is speculation. Reporting by a prominent journalist on the beginning of WWIII is called news.
Scared yet?
Does this willingness to allow the president to pass off legitimate news as speculation translate to a willingness to go ahead and let him bomb Iran? I think so. We know the possible outcomes. The bombing will lead to massive retaliation by terrorists and organized national militaries.
It will shut down the flow of oil, and open the floodgates for the simmering hatred against our country to turn into real destruction. Think 9/11 squared. Cubed.
And with this leadership, we are set up to fail. They are not willing to do what is necessary to win such a war. That would involve asking every American to take part, through money and blood. But there has been no call for a draft. No war tax. Just keep on supporting the troops through blogs and little yellow magnets.
The Dems are the only people who can stop WWIII right now. They can investigate, and demand answers. If only they had a backbone, they could probably halt the use of nuclear or conventional bombs, and force diplomacy.
All indications are that they are not willing to investigate. No questions, no hearings, no discussion. Just start the bombing.
We won't win WWIII. The day the Iran bombing starts is the end of the US.
If you are inclined to believe the 'speculation' meme, or the 'they aren't that nuts' meme, consider this:
If you are right, great. We the paranoid look stupid for a moment and we all move on. No consequences.
If you are wrong...
You may as well believe it. And fight it. It starts by letting the Dems know you want answers.
