They either want that, or Reagan's face on the
$10 bill.
USA Today reported Tuesday that Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., plans to sponsor legislation to have Reagan replace Alexander Hamilton, the nation's first treasury secretary, on the $10 bill.
The proposal has the support of Ronald Reagan Legacy Project, which is headed by Grover Norquist, an influential conservative activist.
The newspaper said Democrats in Congress are not a ready to embrace the idea, though none would come out opposed after Reagan's death Saturday.
I pray our scared-rabbit-like Democratic representatives in Congress have the wherewithall to oppose this legislation in spite of Reagan's death. I'll be disgusted if they cave, and even more so if they then attribute their caving in to a sense of "respect for the dead". Republicans have failed to show the same kind of respect. Furthermore, any effort to plaster Ronnie's name and face on anything is not motivated by any sort of desire to memorialize the man, but rather is symbolic of the GOP's desire to push through any and all parts of their partisan agenda. Democrats in Congress need to ask themselves: how does allowing Reagan's face and name to be put on anything more help anyone but the GOP?
Personally, if either measure gets passed, I just won't use Reagan dimes or $10 bills. Carrying two nickles or two $5 bills is a small price to pay not to have GOP iconography shoved down one's throat.
