I've been on here for a while and I want to say thanks - through a song. You should probably get ready to dance too, just a heads up. The song is a mix of fun and anger, joy and meaning. I added some pictures that matched my reaction to the song. Maybe you will enjoy it, too.
I finished making a fun little video yesterday. It's a fun, jazzy, funk, afrobeat song with lots of jammin - but the few words add a serious, sad, and maddening side. The topic is prisoners, and how there are too many. While I proudly watched it a few times, one of the times I realized that I owed a part of what I know and where I am politically (a strong progressive) and as a person (yikes, that sounds too serious) to the dailykos community. So, it only seemed right to post the video here. I have learned so much from all types of places on this site and it's a continuous resource that I am thankful for everyday. I want to say thank you to the people here - thank you. I appreciate everyone who makes the magic happen. It sounds corny, but it only works so well because lots of people do their small things.
There are obviously a group of topics interconnected to the problem of there being too many prisoners. Here is to learning more, sharing more, and improving this problem. It's a shame to waste so much potential. We can, and must, do much better.
One part of the song I love so much is the tension between the problem described in the song and the joyful music. I find more and more things in life that have this healthy tension, and I'm learning more and more that this is good. It means I'm in the right place where the rubber meets the road. I am now much more comfortable in that place. Again, I want thank this community for providing that dynamic. It's not something that I experience many places. Thanks.
I hope you enjoy the song.
