It seems obvious that long-term unemployment is here for a, well, long term.
Congress has refused any legislation to help people who have paid their mortgages for decades from losing their homes, through no fault of their own.
The employers seem to be refusing to hire people aged over 50, even though corporations now hold $1.3 trillion in cash-on-hand. Well, they did until they paid higher dividends and CEO wages.
Soon, unless Congress acts, millions will have NO income.
It appears that neo-liberals are running things. Therefore, the deficit, not people, not children, and not the elderly has become the highest priority on the Hill.
Audacity, Always Audacity has been replaced with Austerity, Always Austerity.
Here's a modicum idea to both feed people and to insure solvency for our nation's grocery stores.
Because now that Reducing the Deficit is our nation's top priority, we need to find ways to feed people. WIC for all children whose parents are un and underemployed.
What is to prevent Congress from writing a simple bill:
Extend WIC to the under and unemployed with children of any age. How hard would that be? And don't bury it in some debatable bill, too comples for even Thomas to understand.
Simple Bill or Amendment to the existing Bill:
Bill "Save Americans from Hunger"
By enacting this Bill all un and under employed heads of household qualify for WIC assistance consistent with the quantities presently designated under "Whatever the present WIC Bill is called", to feed their children ages 0-18.
End of Bill

At the very least, extending WIC to those un and under employed parents with children, regardless of the children's age, would help keep children healthier and grocery stores solvent.
The cost could be offset by having the grocers return a portion of profit back to the government, as the price of product isn't controlled by WIC. A loop of revenue could be produced, in short.
The American Dream has become The American Nightmare.
We must wake up.
We must enforce a change.
The news lands a punch to our guts every day. We have to keep standing up, regardless.
The latest:
Deficit reduction is the lead driver in Congress.
Isn't that the last straw?
And if, not, what will be?
