I'm Sold!
If I had heard Kerry give THIS speech last summer, I may have become a Kerry supporter. This was it for me-- I am not longer ABB, no longer think Kerry is OK, better than Gore, etc.
I am a Kerry fan.
What right notes did he hit?
1) Trade.
I don't expect a Dem candidate to be able to withstand the corporate pressure and diss NAFTA the way Kucinich did. But... Kerry had a good start with his anti-outsourcing and fair playing field.
- he at least mentioned the deficit. how in hell is W gonna get away with talking deficit at the R convention?
- Stem cells. Someone else here said- this is Kerry's trip to the moon- this is his science goal. And my dad has Parkinson's Disease.
(I know Dean would have been all over this one too).
4) Brilliantly played the military service record. Which is why he IS electable.
Finally...
Kerry is running a fucking brilliant campaign. The rope-a-dope- no one attacked Bush so Kerry could get in all the red meat shots. I am sure they mustve removed the "Saudi Royal Family" line from a few minor speeches so Kerry could deliver the knock-out punch.
Also note that "thank you" to the other candidates- which I THINK was aimed squarely at Dean.
The only thing they messed up: They should've had Cleland start at 10:00, had Kerry start at 10:20 and screw the networks. Kerry should NOT have had a clock- his only problems were in his applause line pauses.
