I had been meaning to research Jack Conway, so I began today by searching for some of his videos on Youtube. I saw a bunch of attack videos by Paulbots which lacked substance and showed how weak Rand Paul really is and how juvenile some of his supporters are. However, one video did spark my interest.

As a progressive, I rely on sites like Daily Kos to inform me of various candidates around the country worth supporting. With Rand Paul all over the news opposing civil rights and defending BP, I hoped his opponent would be someone worth supporting.
I was excited to hear Markos and others mention that the Democratic candidate Jack Conway is a progressive and someone this community should get behind. It is imperative that we do not let all the progress we made by winning the house and presidency go to waste by allowing teabagger obstructionists like Rand Paul filibustering any real reform.
I had been meaning to research Jack Conway, so I began today by searching for some of his videos on Youtube. I saw a bunch of attack videos by Paulbots which lacked substance and showed how weak Rand Paul really is and how juvenile some of his supporters are. However, one video did spark my interest.
I noticed a video just uploaded entitled "Is Jack Conway a Progressive?" I assumed the answer was yes, and expected the video to portray Conway as a true reform candidate pushing for meaningful progress towards social justice, peace, and equality as all true progressives strive for.
Unfortunately, this was not the case. The video went on to document a litany of very troublesome positions Jack Conway has taken in the distant and recent past. According to the quotes in the video, Jack:
- Denies being a liberal or progressive
- Opposes capping emissions
- Supports the absolutely disastrous policy of mountaintop removal
- Supported George Bush on the Iraq war
- Supports extending the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy
- Opposes medicinal marijuana
- Sounds like the typical Republican on immigration, supports deportation
- Snubbed Joe Biden when he came to Kentucky
- Says he will always distance himself from the Obama administration
The video was released by "demfromny." I don't know whether it was really made by a Democrat from New York or by a Paultard. It doesn't really add up that a Paul supporter would be "exposing" him for these positions, though, because Rand Paul agrees with virtually all of them, and his strategy is to paint Conway too liberal, rather than too conservative.
Either way, the words in the video speak for themselves. I am utterly disappointed in this candidate, and slightly upset that DK has been promoting him as something more than he really is. Nonetheless, I recognize how awful it would be to have Rand Paul in the Senate. Of course, Jack Conway would be the better choice, but only barely, it seems. As such, I have decided not to send him any financial support. I will focus my money on candidates who are true progressives, and not posers.
I surmise I am not alone in being disturbed by the video. I anticipate you will not write me off for my opinions, but explain in a civil matter why you agree or disagree with me. I leave you with the said video:
