With the Republicans blaring loudly and clearly their intentions to demagogue shamelessly against Muslim-Americans this fall, there’s something the Democrats can do besides cowering in fear that the radical right wing extremists, racists and bigots will sway everyday Americans this November.
What is that one message that might blunt the Republicans’ plans to shamelessly pander to bigots this fall, including anti-Muslim bigots?
It’s the one thing that might also help Democrats to counter the so-called Republican "enthusiasm" gap that pollsters claim favor Republicans this fall: Call the Republicans out...by shamelessly exposing them for the racists, bigots, homophobes and xenophobes that they are.
An ad campaign entitled, "Why does the GOP dislike minorities?" might work well. There is ample ammunition to demonstrate how the GOP constantly votes against the interests of Hispanics, Blacks, Muslims, gays, even women (remember the recent anti-Hispanic hysteria from the Republican governor of Arizona, supported by most Republicans, the trashing of an African-American icon, Thurgood Marshall, the anti-mosque hysteria in New York City and the GOP opposition to the Lilly Leadbetter equal pay for equal work act?)
Perhaps the Democrats need to show some of their core constituents exactly how much animosity the Republican Party holds towards them, and explain exactly what is at stake for Muslim-Americans, African-Americans, Hispanics, women, the GLBT community and others if the Republicans were to take over one or more houses of Congress.
It’s time for the Democrats to fight fire with fire...and demagogue right back at the Republicans...by...scaring the crap out of people regarding the prospect of Republican rule. The only difference between the Republicans’ demagogic pandering and the Democrats' would be that the Democrats’ scare tactics would be at least predicated on truth. After all, if the Republicans hate Muslim-Americans, gays, Hispanics and Blacks so much to trash them during an election just think what they are capable of doing afterward.
Why do Republicans hate minorities so much? Even white progressive males like myself, who fall under none of those minority categories...would be motivated to get out this fall with a brazen campaign like that.
