Good evening and welcome to the 2010 Baja Arizona primary liveblog. As most of you know, Baja Arizona is that part of the state south of the Gila River. I want to apologize in advance for any parochialism or favoritism inadvertently shown in favor of Pima County or the Old Pueblo. I do not mean to imply that residents of Tucson are smarter, better educated, more cultured or better looking than residents of other cities and towns in the Grand Canyon State. All are welcome here from all parts of Arizona or the USA, even Devil worshipers and other unfortunates from the Valley of the Sun.
Any Kossacks in Scottsdale ? ... Ahwatukee ? ... Tempe ?
OK, on to the primary results ...
The polls have closed and results should start trickling in any time now. KUAT has been threatening to give a complete rundown at 10pm with Conover and Nintzel. I've got the radio on, KJLL 1330AM with continuous coverage from the sonorous John C. Scott, Jim Nintzel of the Tucson Weekly (dude gets around) and other guests, including the insufferable Bruce ASS Ash.
The race most will be interested in is, of course, the one for US Senate. This one has national import. On our side there are four candidates: John Dougherty, Cathy Eden, Rodney Glassman and Randy Parraz. Rodney Glassman seems to have fallen out of favor, on this site anyway. It looks like the Arizona Kossacks have coalesced around Randy Parraz. It was so much easier when Rodney was the only candidate, wasn't it ? (Yes, CS in AZ, I switched.)
On their side, I'm sure we all want to see Grampy McCain lose. It would be best if he lost his primary since the CW is that the eventual Democratic nominee would have a better chance against Hayworth than Grampy. Say it with me now - JAY-DEE JAY-DEE JAY-DEE.
I'm in CD-07 where the Hon. Raul Grijalva is running unopposed. On the other side, it will be interesting to see if wackjob and perennial loser Joe Sweeney can ride the Teabagger wave to victory. Kossacks in CD-08 will be watching to see who will challenge their beloved Gabrielle Giffords in the general. (I like her new shorter haircut, by the way, almost a Hillary look.) I want to hear from other districts as well. Are there candidates who can beat Flake, Shadegg or Franks ?
In solidly blue LD-28 we have so many good people running for State Rep. that it almost doesn't matter which two win, I've been told it's the same in LD-29. I'd like to hear from other LDs. There are a lot of races to watch and a lot of good Dems running. So check in, let us know which races you're watching and what your sources are for the most up-to-date returns.
May all your candidates do well.
