Or Jonah Goldberg really is an ass...
In his last attempt at saving whatever face his tear streaked cheeks could muster, Jonah tried to wager a thousand dollar bet that Iraq wouldn't dissolve into civil war--meaning, of course, the cost of thousands of more lives in addition to the lives already needlessly murdered in Iraq. Cole slaps this final stupidity down the only way it can be: send the twelve year old boy back to his room, not just for being an idiot, but for being a cruel idiot. Here's his final sentence or two from Informed Comment:
A wager on the backs of human beings. Perhaps Mr. Goldberg would like to bring back slavery, as well.
I think we may let the matter rest there, at this nadir.
Indeed, but I will make Jonah a wager he shouldn't refuse but probably will. Jonah I will bet one thousand dollars that you wouldn't last one week in downtown Baghdad alone, anywhere outside the green zone, in a U.S. military uniform. What do you say, Jonah? I'll give you whatever odds you want, just please go... our boys, who you say you love, could really use the help.
