Obama Aides Weigh Bid to Tie the G.O.P. to the Tea Party
White House and Congressional Democratic strategists are trying to energize dispirited Democratic voters over the coming six weeks, in hopes of limiting the party’s losses and keeping control of the House and Senate. The strategists see openings to exploit after a string of Tea Party successes split Republicans in a number of states, culminating last week with developments that scrambled Senate races in Delaware and Alaska.
Yes. There are some beautiful openings to exploit by those who might seek to exploit such exploitable weaknesses.
Will they seize the opportunity, though?
THAT'S the question.
“We need to get out the message that it’s now really dangerous to re-empower the Republican Party,” said one Democratic strategist who has spoken with White House advisers but requested anonymity to discuss private strategy talks.
It IS important to "get out the message that it’s now really dangerous to re-empower the Republican Party". That's a BEAUTIFUL message. How can Dems make it heard?
What's to discuss? Should we just talk about pleasant things and show Americans some fancy charts, or should we try to stomp on the throats of the Republicans?
I suggest stomping on their throats* - they want to stomp on our throats and I say we - for once - beat them to the punch. Beat them like a rental car with full insurance coverage.
*
Note: "Throat stomping" is just "inspirational metaphor'; Something to make the heart pound. I like martial arts and fighting so it's a metaphor I just pulled it out of you-know-where at last moment.
I don't want folks going around hurting people. Most people probably know this, but it can't hurt to clarify it.
It's not like this should be hard to do: Repubs have completely jumped of the cliff as far as being extreme dipshits goes. They are even purging the repubs that seem, you know, not very evil or extreme.
So yeah, I do think Team Obama should be spending money on TV ads that remind Americans that the GOP is full of batshit crazy, racist, knuckledraggers that have shit for brains and delusions for dreams and are responsible for the economic toilet dive we have all experienced since before Bush left the nation in tatters.
Of course.... that seems like TOO MUCH to expect from the Dems I have seen since 2001.
Democrats are divided. The party’s House and Senate campaign committees are resistant, not wanting to do anything that smacks of nationalizing the midterm elections when high unemployment and the drop in Mr. Obama’s popularity have made the climate so hostile to Democrats. Endangered Congressional candidates want any available money to go to their localized campaigns.
This is the wimp-out crap I am talking about right here.
I believe Dems have the upperhand in that they AREN'T extremist nutjobs.
But Dems believe that the narrative is already chisled in stone despite the narrative being wholly false. THe GOP has used its media influence to lay the blame for all of Bush's bullshit on the doorstep for Obama. If Dems had media savvy, they'd have been all over this fighting back. They have run and hid and wrung their hands about it, instead.
So many Democrats ARE milquetoast panty-wadding fainting goats it's sometimes a mystery to me how the Democratic party even exists at this point: existence is a risk. These wilting petunias have to take a risk just to exist; why not FIGHT BACK against the fact-free onslaught the GOP has waged for the last 40,000 years. Real petunias are tougher...
Fight back, goddammit.
The GOP actually couldn't be doing more to help Dems write their own attack ads and it's unmitigated wussery that would allow Dems to completely botch this, like we all know they are capable of doing. .
Republicans strategists remain confident of the party’s prospects for big gains in November, even as they acknowledge that they are unlikely to win the Senate race in Delaware after the victory in the Republican primary there of Christine O’Donnell, a Tea Party-backed candidate with a long record of controversial statements, over Representative Michael N. Castle, a moderate and popular former two-term governor.
Republicans KNOW they are vulnerable on this teabagger nonsense. These charlatans have a real potential to cause huge problems for the GOP and savvy Democrats - or just those who really want to win - would be working day and night to highlight the GOP connection to the Teabaggers.
Teabaggers = GOP. Very simple.
Launch attack ads; They are going to. I have seen some good ads, so it's not for want of good ads. It seems to be that elusive "political will" stuff that gets in the way.
Link them to teabaggers and extremism. Over and over and over. That's a way to use the TV for Democratic purposes.
Politicians always vow to run on issues,at least at first. But it invariably becomes mudslinging. Dems should simply sling first.
That is IF they are genuinely concerned about winning and stuff like that.
Go negative. Be aggressive.
Tie them to extremism.
Call them Anti-American.
Highlight the republicans lack of one clear idea on ANYTHING.
Remind people that aside from being heinously irresponsible with the economy.
Link them to the Teabaggers and their braindead lunacy..
So, really, what's to talk about?
Dems will choose to Kick Ass or LOSE.
Update [2010-9-20 9:17:59 by xxdr zombiexx]: I had a thought reading and responding to comments.
While "Dems should kick ass" is a correct sentiment its not exactly a concrete suggestion so, based on all this
The Democratic Party should seek to specifically ensure that American Voters are scared of the GOP.
What say ye? Poll added below
And thank you all very much for the positive response.
