Hi All,
We finalized our game plan. We decided not to reserve a place because we could not get a good bead on our actual numbers. I hope that many of you within driving distance are going to be "spur of the moment" and come to DC on Friday the 1st. If you don't, I'm sure we'll devise something for Saturday after the triumph as well.
Here's some advice from someone who hit three of the Anti-War marches leading up to Bush's Iraq disaster--don't assume it is going to be big--Get off your duff and make it big!! If you live anywhere near a Metro in the DC area, you have no excuse. Yes, that's a challenge. If you live far away--don't you want to get out of town for a change? See some like minded people from all over the country and restore your hope? (If needed)
This weekend is our chance.
Initially, I was thinking of booking a place with a meeting room. However, War on Error suggested Union Station, and I quite agree. We are going to meet between 6 and 9 pm at a place called The Center Cafe in the Main Hall of Union Station--for you Metro riders this is on the Red Line. They have a Happy Hour menu in the upstairs bar until 7 pm. I suspect that this place won't be too crowded, but either way we are taking the place over. Here are some pics:
The dinner menu ranges from $8-25 per item. There is a food court downstairs, so you could eat elsewhere and then just join us for drinks. There is some public seating in the Main Hall of Union Station--so we can spread out there too. ( I doubt they let you take a drink out of the Cafe, however.) To get in the spirit, and to make yourself identifiable--WEAR ORANGE. That goes for Saturday too.
Afterward, you can drift to any number of places. Midtown, and Chinatown are a short taxi ride away. Georgetown is a little further. However, if you want to stay in the Union Station area, there is The Capitol City Brewing Company practically connected to Union Station and two Irish Bars--The Dubliner and Irish Times a block away right next to each other.
Just a couple more things: Let's have a good time, but represent our cause well. Have a good time, but remember, "Rudeness is the weak man's imitation of strength." Additionally--many of us post here under a Username for a reason--so don't take any pictures of someone unless they don't mind. We don't want to out anyone. I am certainly looking forward to meeting a bunch of Kossacks that I see around here all the time. Of course, I'm also up for meeting many Kossacks I don't know at all. See you all in a few days--plan now, it will be here sooner than you think.
