Today I posted in the comments of teacherken's diary that I was considering posting my first diary. I spent most of the day preparing for a small get together with friends and contemplating the substance of that diary. I have spent the the last nine months fighting for the public schools of Sparta, NJ, which my children are enrolled. I knew most dkos readers would respond well to my disdain for NJ Governor Chris Christie, but wondered how they would respond to my realization that the present funding formula in NJ is hastening the trend toward privatization of public schools.
The recent situation where the Governor of NJ has been vacationing in Disney World while the state has been trying to dig out from a blizzard has changed all of my plans. The Teflon Governor has returned and has spoken. His remarks are so outragous I had to report them... http://www.nj.com/...
Chris Christie slams local municipalities for snow removal during blizzard
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie slammed local municipalities that were critical of the state's snow removal efforts while he was on a family vacation at Disney World in Florida during last week's blizzard. Christie said, "I know who these mayors are and they should buck up and take responsibility for the fact that they didn't do their job."
These guys stay in NJ trying to clear the roadways and he is slamming them!
>Christie made international news when the storm dumped nearly three feet of snow in some places and he remained in Florida. He said he had promised his children that he would take them to the resort the week between Christmas and New Years and didn't want to go back on that promise. He said since he flew on a commercial airline it would have likely been impossible for him to return to the state earlier, adding that his flight this morning was delayed several hours.
Really? Impossible? I sincerely doubt that. And what about his Lt. Governor, NJ's first, recently voters approved a Lt. Governor....
Christie confirmed reports that Lt. Gov. Guadagno was out of the state because she was vacationing with her ailing father. She is on a two-week cruise, Christie said, that her father organized for all of his children and grandchildren given the possibility that it could be his last Christmas.
Well while most Americans are fighting with insurance companies and fretting the costs of their parents' illnesses' she is cruising for his last Christmas. You know what? If you were just some wealthy private person I could deal with that, but
when you are the Lt. governor to a man that has chastised public employees as "out of touch with workers in the private sector" how dare you? The hypocrisy is simply unbelievable! You truly can't make this stuff up!
Take a look at what conservative columnist Paul Mulshine had to say about Christie's remarks at the press conference he held in Asbury Park.
http://blog.nj.com/...
Christie said " I wouldn't change a thing about the decision I made, I had five great days with my children". Mulshine's response to this statement was that it was the most self-centered statement ever rendered by a politician. The title of Mulshine's editorial is Chris Christie commits political suicide....lets just hope so.
