I was just realizing ... 3 years ago tonight, on January 8, 2008, Barack Obama lost the New Hampshire primary to Hillary Clinton.
For Democrats who supported Obama, the loss was a punch in the gut, especially after the Iowa victory and building a solid lead in the polls. Hillary Clinton, you'll recall, was ridiculed for choking back tears.
The results on January 8th showed the resilience of the Democratic Party in two ways. For Clinton, it showed that she wasn't going to go down easily. For Obama, we had this.
Tonight is a pretty somber night for me. I'm really hurting because of the tragedy in Arizona and the idiocy in Washington DC from the House Republicans, who seem more interested in repealing Obamacare than doing something to reduce the deficit or create jobs.
But when I face days like this, I always remember the inspiring words (just words?) of the President.
I still believe in the American people, and the American dream.
