Well, the impossible has come to pass; my diary on Type 2 diabetes has been nominated for a kOscar for Best Teaching Diary. So, throwing all pretense at objectivity out the window, I'm asking - no, begging - for your vote. You see, there's a runoff in progress, and the 9 diaries with the most votes will make it into the finals.
The diabetes diary slunk off the recent list without much fanfare, as most diaries do. I put an amazing amount of work into it; it literally took me months to write. I included in it basically everything I have learned over fifteen years about living well with Type 2 diabetes. My greatest pleasure in writing any sort of teaching diary comes when someone says "this really helped me", and several people did. Nurse Kelley has said that it is one of the best KosAbility diaries she's seen and asked for a repost, which is scheduled for next Sunday (1/16).
But I'm up against a veritable horde of Daily Kos superstars in this nomination, and with a diary that slunk down the recent list and out of sight to boot. So I'm here, hat in hand (except I don't generally wear hats), asking for your vote so my hard work can make it through the runoffs and into the final round of voting.
In my diary, I covered food, exercise, other lifestyle factors such as stress reduction, how not to be the diabetes police if your loved one has diabetes, what diabetes is, blood glucose, diabetes education, and other such things. One thing I didn't touch upon much was medication, because there are so many diabetes medications on the market and I don't know enough about all of them, their workings, and their side effects to be able to do a thorough job of covering this topic. I can speak from personal experience about many, but by no means all, and I've never been on insulin so I can't speak from personal experience about that most important of diabetes medications.
I think this diary of mine was okay. It is certainly the one into which I put the most work and put a great deal of myself into as well. It's difficult to condense fifteen years of living into a diary, but I made a try at it, and several people were helped thereby. That's all I asked for.
Now I'm asking for your vote for a diary that slipped off the radar into obscurity, as so many do. It's up against a lot of diaries that made the rec list. It's an underdog, to be honest, and I'm hoping that Kossacks' defense of the underdogs will lead you to go to Laughing Planet's kOscars diary, read it, rec it, vote in the polls including voting for my diary as one of your selections for Best Teaching Diary, and comment.
You are not only allowed but encouraged to make multiple selections in each category.
Thanks.
