Basically, I'm venting here. Maybe someone can offer a solution, maybe someone can sympathize, maybe someone can tell me that it's 100% my fault, maybe someone can HR because this isn't a "real diary." But here goes.
I live in Pennsylvania. My employer used to collect arrearage health insurance payments directly from me, about $55 biweekly, but in September, the parent company decided to collect the monies directly. The email was very specific and not very friendly. November arrives, and I haven't seen a bill yet. I call several numbers at the company, talk to several people and answering machines, and leave messages, to find out the amount I owe and where to send it. I'm told to not leave additional messages, because there's a backlog, and I should be patient. I leave a few more, anyway.
Fast forward to Monday. I finally got through to someone. They tell me that my arrearages had to paid by the end of the year, and that they sent me a single billing notice. This information would have been useful in November or December, but no one would offer it. Now, they're quick to call me back and provide me with all the information I could ever need.
I have no health insurance.
I had the money the entire time, I only needed an amount and an address to send it to, per their instructions. What was the point of calling them and having them tell me they were going to call me back if they're going to tie my payment to a single billing cycle?
The thing is, I knew this would happen, based on the emailed announcement. This was a way to kick people off the insurance. I said as much in September.
Yesterday morning, I visited the ER.
I'm also currently in bankruptcy. Is a judge going to dismiss the bill?
Thanks for reading this.
UPDATE: I received a phone message from the company. The woman spoke to her manager and said they won't reinstate me because the amount of arrears is so high. So, it sounds like it's an option as to whether or not I can be reinstated, and not a hard and fast rule. I need to talk to an employment and labor lawyer.
UPDATE 2: I called my health insurance company and they said I haven't been terminated yet. So I'm going to send a money order certified mail to the one address that I have.
