There are times I hate being right...
On Sunday I posted this comment. It predicted that today's shit storm over Sarah's words was inevitable. And what the follow up will be. The media will start falling all over themselves to apologize to her. Then the nuts will have successfully switched the tragedy in AZ to be an attack on them which will let them say and do anything without blame. Mission accomplished.
I have to believe this has been their game plan all along. They've probably suspected for some time that an event like the shooting would occur. For all our jokes about them being stupid we forget the real leaders are crafty, manipulative bastards. Yes, evil is a word that comes to mind when describing them.
And they know, they KNOW how to play the media. Right now they're putting on a performance that would draw standing ovations at the Met. Applauses echoing off the walls from the adoring crowd. And we're falling for the act hook, line, and sinker.
I really don't know how to deal with this. Maybe we need to just ignore every single thing that comes out of their pieholes. Put out our own messages but don't include even a reference to theirs. When we acknowledge their hate, fear, and ignorance it just gives it legitimacy. If every time we get a chance to use their megaphone of the media and mention their position it's a win for them or at worse a tie.
And when it is unavoidable do what Alan Grayson did it. Talk about them and their agenda not in their words but frame them as the villians (it should be easy, they ARE villians). "Die, and die quickly" was a brilliant summary of their healthcare "plan". And if he hadn't been nearly the only one doing it would've been impossible for the right to focus their attention on him and we still might have him in Congress.
But no, our representatives get on the squawk box and echo the Republican message while they try to explain ours. In effect they're treating them as equals, talk about your "false equivalency". We cower while they attack and we reward them for it. We don't have to use words of hate to fight them, but damn it, we can't help them spread their message.
