I heard that number earlier this week and wrote a comment in another diary. I was astounded but not surprised. Then last night Rachel covered an EJ Dionne column about the attitude about the Second Amendment. I think she was spot on.
Working on embed. Here's the link.

I'll ask the question again that I asked earlier this week. What major malfunction do a significant number of Americans suffer from that they are so damned insecure that they need that many guns?
I did facetiously offer one suggestion. IIRC from my Psych., Social Psych. and Anthropology classes there is a correlation if not a direct link to the lack of breast feeding. In societies where children are breast feed more and to later ages than we do in the US (our Puritanical heritage, ya know) it is observed that even as children, the individuals are more confidant and secure. As compared to children in the US who often have feelings of abandonment and insecurity in greater numbers. Food for thought anyway.
Getting back to Rachel's piece. I think we all should use her facetious argument that if gun ownership is really about keeping a tyrannical government in check, then we should have access to all the military hardware available. Otherwise that argument is just blowing smoke. And I's prefer not to get ass cancer from all that smoke they're blowin' up my ass.
I mean really, where's my fucking Abrams tank? Do you expect me to go up against a tank with just an modified AR-15 and an anti-tank rocket launcher? Where's my bomber and my fighter jet? Where's my tactical nuclear weapon? Where's my JDAM to penetrate the Pentagon?
If Rand Paul and all the others want to make the argument that the Second Amendment is really about the citizenry's ability to keep the government in check, then you have to extend that argument all the way out to allowing civilian access to military hardware. To do otherwise is to admit limitations and restrictions on civilian access to guns. And gun control is about reasonable restrictions not prohibition. The NRA so polluted the environment with the fear of prohibition that people are not rational about it.
I think from now on, in our discussion about guns, we should disarm them by agreeing with them and then demand access to all the military hardware. Then watch them talk us down from that position. Have them making the argument back to us for reasonable restrictions of guns. It'll be fun.
On with the games!!
Mojo Friday Guidelines
- If you comment you have to recommend all comments. (in order to receive mojo you have to give mojo. It's only good mojo manners.)
- Everything you say may be taken as a joke (so if you ask a question, expect a silly answer)
- You must recommend the diary (and pimp it unapologetically)
- You don't have to comment to recommend.
