Long time user (UID in the 2000), not a huge poster but I've been around. I've been very hesitate to post this, as its non political, and its not like my health is in danger or anything.
Simply put, I need help starting a business.
What I hear you say in your head?
A little backstory if you will permit me. I've been in IT for years, 12-13 years in fact. I've done bench tech work, been a computer trainer/instructor, been a windows admin, a VMware admin, and a backup/SCCM admin. In short I've been in the IT industry for a while. One of the more frustrating aspects of the industry is when you need to get something up and running fast, and all you have is a 800 page book. Full of great high level information, but very little in the manner of step by step guides.
But wait! The internet! True there are lots of step by step guides, but they are literally ALL over the place, this guy over here has a great guide on Cisco ASA's, but nothing else, and because he posted it on his personal blog, when someone searches for it, it shows up on page 40 of the search results, where hardly anyone will ever see it.
So I'm aiming to change that.. with an online centralized repository for step by step guides for IT people, by IT people. With the added benefit (when I get it working right) for subscribed users to be able to annotate online the guides with their own notes, server names, etc. Subscribed users can also submit new guides, and updates to existing guides so that they don't get "stale" and out of date.
What's this got to do with me? I'm not an IT person, I hear you say..
What I'm asking for help with:
- Proofreading.. look at the site, see a misspelling? A grammar issue? Tell me! (via the suggestions link on the site or email me at joshc@autopidgeon.com)
- If you ARE in IT, have any guides you want to share? I'm in alpha here, so content is key! I'll take any you want to share.
- Money.. yeah I said it.. money. There are ads on the site, and a donation link. DO NOT feel like you need or have to donate or anything like that, in fact of everything I'm asking, this is the least important to me at the moment. The goal in this area is to make what I'm making now on my 9-5 so I can do this full time, and have more family time. (IT involves a LOT of after hours work that since your usually salaried.. well.. you get the picture)
- Site design feedback.. Just look at the site, and see how things look. Have an idea or suggestion for how to should look? Let me know.
The site is here. http://www.AutoPidgeon.com
And thanks in advance!
(Note: I emailed the powers that be here about posting this, I got no response from any of them, so either they don't mind, or they are ignoring me.. but I did ask, for the purists out there!)
