A focus on liveable communities, or 'get moving' health and fitness programs may increase walking and pedestrian-vehicle conflicts.

Tucker Carlson's Huffington Post knockoff and the Right Wing Washington Examiner turned that single sentence from a Governors Highway Safety Association report into:

ZOMG FLOTUS IZ KILLIN PEDESTRIANS

Yes. Really.

First the Daily Caller headline was:

First Lady's anti-obesity campaign could be causing more pedestrian deaths

Oh my! How awful!

Then they decided to tone it down a bit:

Highway safety spokesperson blames pedestrian deaths on first lady's obesity campaign

Then they decided "Hmmm, let's apply one more layer of Butt-Covering Wax™":

Highway safety spokesperson blames pedestrian deaths on Michelle Obama’s anti-obesity campaign?

See? Question mark. Its totally good journalism now bcuz there's a question mark and I'M JUST ASKING QUESTION STAN.

And since you can possibly get hit by a car while jogging or walking, we should all stay inside and get fatter, obviously. Safe!

BTW, the original press release from the GHSA was titled:

New Study: Progress in Reducing Pedestrian Deaths Lags in 2010

WASHINGTON, D.C.—A report released today by the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA) reveals that pedestrian fatalities increased during the first six months of 2010. While the increase is small – 0.4 percent...

That's right, a 0.4% increase in the first six months. That's what got this story on the Drudge Report. Tucker Carlson's money pit had the balls to morph that into "Pedestrian deaths increased sharply during the first half of 2010".

Its not good enough for The Right to believe that the President is Mao, they have to believe that the First Lady is Jiang Qing too.

They'll use anything to trash Michelle Obama. No matter how stupid or petty.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
