MSNBC: You blew it.
Keith Olbermann was the cornerstone of everything that made MSNBC great. If executives at MSNBC felt threatened by Keith, they should have. He has more on the ball than they do. I hope that MSNBC does not fail or collapse as the only voice for Reason vs. the non-news Fox News Network. Somebody has screwed up big-time in terminating Keith. The decision was dumb, short-sighted, and repugnant.
Yet, I hope it does not bring down the network. Unless there's no place in Cable TV for an intelligent voice in the face of Fox non-News. If others in your prime time lineup begin to leave, you will have given us your answer, and we will turn to other venues for news.
MSNBC will have died.
In my open letter to Keith, I wrote:
Keith, we're going to miss you. If we lose MSNBC, too -- and Comcast may see to that -- we will have lost the only cable news voice that Liberals and Progressives could turn to in the face of the mad onslaught of Fox News, conservatives, Republican Tea Party anti-democratic views, and irrational Right Wing fear of social democracy. You spear-headed the only sane future for America. Don't stop now! Since your contract prohibits you from cable and/or broadcast networks for a couple of years, join the Huffington Post -- and continue to share your courageous views with us. DON'T STOP NOW!
