Been thinking about how to survive for two days without my fellow Kossacks.
The impending doom is currently scheduled for Friday and Saturday, February 4 and 5. Yes, if you missed the news, Daily Kos will be down for T W O D A Y S. We all have to evacuate while the place is refurbished, refurnished and redecorated.
The schedule is subject to change, but as of now Kos says the team is on track for those dates. I am not quite as optimistic, and think we may have a slight delay, but we need to be ready! Pack your go-bag and put it by the door!
What will we ever do? Who will save the fleeing evacuees?
Over the jump for Emergency Broadcast System Message and evacuation instructions!
Where to go in this emergency:
David Waldman (Kagro-X), long time Kossack, and proprietor of Congress Matters, has graciously and generously offered to open his doors for us at Congress Matters!
No cold, lonely days and wasted nights, out there in the elements alone dear Kossacks!
See you at Congress Matters! (Bookmark this because you won't be able to come here to find it!)
Now, David's place is not quite as rambunctious as Daily Kos. They analyze and seriously discuss the daily activities of Congress over there. So, let's be polite, and be on good behavior. You can do it! :)
However, David does want us to have a good time, and comment in the existing diaries, create some diaries and visit. We don't have to just talk about Congressional stuff, but rather anything we like!
One thing we don't know about is the server load capability over there. Let's not all rush over and try to turn it exactly into Daily Kos, and crash it.
But, if there is breaking news, we have a place to post a diary, and we have a place to keep in touch. Maybe put off that diary that can wait, and comment instead in diaries that are already up. We could keep some open threads going, too.
Maybe Kos or ct can shed some light on the server. And, make sure passwords are updated. :)
If you've been wanting to take a break and get outside, or get some chores done, this would be a good time to do it! But, if you can't take it... !
When: | Feb. 4 and 5, or whenever Daily Kos goes dark |
Where: | Congress Matters |
How: | Your Daily Kos login and password work |
Dress Code: | Yes, please dress |
What to Bring: | Your favorite spikings for the punch, and the usual courteous, friendly Kossack attitude |
Activities: | The pie throwing has been canceled! |
See you there!
Festivities end when Daily Kos opens back up, but please continue to give Congress Matters your business, and stop by to check out the discussions in the future. There is so much valuable information there, that we should all know.
----
I might also put an open thread up at OpenLeft so please watch for it. (Just a backup backup plan.) I am OLinda there too. I don't think there is a waiting period if you open an account there.
Open Left is (or was, I am not sure) Chris Bowers' place so I don't think they'll mind. They might enjoy having some new visitors, just not 250,000 of them. Chris is currently managing the Daily Kos email action project.
Kossack sardonyx has outlined some preparations with your stuff that you might want to make, but you don't have to do anything unless you want to. They are throwing tarps over everything, so all your diaries and comments, and same login and password will be safe and waiting for you when you return. Please see sardonyx' diary if you have not already read it.
You can check out the beta site here. Your Daily Kos login and password will work unless you joined after last May or so. If you can't get in, you can open a new account to check it out with, or look at the site like a visitor, not logged in. (Your existing password will work when Daily Kos opens back up even if you can't log in to the beta.) Just remember, it is still beta and everything is not working exactly right. Still squashing some bugs.
UPDATE
Kos posted at DK4 that he expects Daily Kos to be down "Late Friday into Saturday." So, it's not an entire "Friday and Saturday" as many of us thought. Sorry for any alarm caused by my error. Still nice to know we have a place to go. I wish Kos and team luck and success with a smooth and speedy transition.
