And once again, we have the spinmeisters making 'facts on the ground'.
The situation in Cairo still in flux, and unknown, yet Rove and Abrams are pushing a redemption of George W Bush's Administration that somehow our invasion of Iraq is what sparked Tunisia, and now Egypt.

"Arab nations, too, yearn to throw off the secret police, to read a newspaper that the Ministry of Information has not censored and to vote in free elections. The Arab world may not be swept with a broad wave of revolts now, but neither will it soon forget this moment."
The hypocrisy is brazenly stunning, isn't it?
One can make the argument that W's actions in Iraq resulted in today's events, if one is willing accept the actual consequences of these results. I didn't see where Rove and Abrams tried to claim that the political power of Hamas and Hezbollah were the result of W's policies. Damn peculiar, that.
Not unpredictable, this attempt to take what has been a wholly generic, grass roots upsurge of people who are fed up with decades of US and the West meddling in their futures, and co-opt it into some sort of perverse 'moral victory' for a lie about a war we never should have started in the first place.
Stunning, brazen, and typically the very thing that people like Rove and Abrams excel at - distorting history, using any event to forward their narrative, no matter how far off the mark it is.
The people in the ME who are struggling now for a voice against oppression don't necessarily hate Americans, but to imply that their goals, what they are doing and how it relates to their lives somehow meshes with the Bush Doctrine, adapted to 'spreading of democracy', the fourth fallback excuse for the invasion of Iraq, is sickeningly perverted and hypocritical. Universally, these people are struggling against dictatorships because of the simplistic American foreign policy of 'the enemy of my enemy is my friend', and the blow back of extremist radicalism is just a symptom of that blow back. As neocons push this meme upon media, it will be interesting to watch the adoption of this concept. No doubt, all the talk shows will be loaded with W's 'Victory of The Spirit', spreading democracy.
This attempt by neocons to grasp at a hollow Gold Ring reminds me of the Official Fairy Tale of how Ronnie Reagan singlehandedly defeated the Soviet Union. I can't laugh, because I watched as Reagan's false legacy was promoted and reigns supreme over the land, burned into 'history' like a cheap personal hygiene product is burned into the consciousness of an ignorant public, by constant repetition.
The redemption of neocon policies and the Bush Family Name is in full swing.
Something tells me that Rove, Abrams, Cheney and Bush would have more than a warm reception, if they were to parachute into downtown Cairo and offer to lend these folks a hand as they struggle to cast off the yoke of dictatorship.
More than a warm reception.
