Yesterday, I posted about my daughter's evacuation. Today, she's awaiting a flight out. We don't know where the flight is going (directly to the states or an interim location first), all I know so far is that she still doesn't want to go. That her host parents went shopping today so that my daughter can bring something to her daughter.
My daughter's story here.
***UPDATE***
She's heading to Europe. Just got a call from AFS, but no idea where or when, but the Warden message appears to be accurate. She and other Americans are being evacuated to Europe.
**UPDATE 2**
It's Cyprus, Athens or Istanbul now. No idea of when or which or how she'll get home from there, but tomorrow she is scheduled to leave.
Today, I received the latest news from the Warden System from the US Department of State.
The U.S. Embassy in Cairo informs U.S. citizens in Egypt who wish to depart that the Department of State is making arrangements to provide transportation to safehaven locations in Europe. This assistance will be provided on a reimbursable basis, as required by U.S. law. U.S. citizens who travel on US government –arranged transport will be expected to make their own onward travel plans from the safehaven location. Flights to evacuation points will begin departing Egypt on Monday, January 31. Persons interested in departing Egypt via USG-chartered transportation should contact the US Department of State and Embassy Cairo by sending an email to EgyptEmergencyUSC@state.gov or by calling 1-202-501-4444. Please provide the following information:
Name, age, place of birth and U.S. passport number Any special medical need
Not sure how my daughter is going to deal with this part of the message:
Travelers are permitted only one piece of luggage per person.
She's trying to bring everything she had in Egypt AND some stuff for her host family's daughter in Buffalo (she's an exchange student there).
I am so hopeful that tomorrow, I'll know more about what is going on and when my daughter will be home. And no, she really doesn't want to leave. There were lots of tears from her and her family today when they dropped her off at the staging hotel.
