For the first time since 1962 the Ohio Gubernatorial Cabinet will be all White, and overwhelmingly Male. When asked by a Black Democratic State Rep if fresh Governor (and former Fox News Host) John Kasich needed any "Help finding qualified minority candidates" he responded with ... "I don't need any of YOUR People"?
But exactly who are those people John? Black people are Democrats?
Via Thinkprogress.
Delivering on his vision for a “new way,” Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R-OH) “is on pace to be the first governor since 1962 to have an entire Cabinet without any racial diversity.” Every one of his 22 full-time agency head appointments has been a white person. Only five are women. Dubbing diversity as “metrics that people tend to focus on,” Kasich said, “I can’t say I need to find somebody to fit this metric” because “it’s not the way I look at those things. I want the best possible team I can get.”
Yesterday, the Ohio Legislative Black Caucus held a press conference to express their waning patience with his dismissive attitude and “implore[] Kasich to make better strides to diversify his Cabinet.” But according to State Senator Nina Turner (D-OH), this time Kasich’s response was a bit more blunt. According to Turner, when the caucus offered him help in finding qualified minority applicants, Kasich told Turner, “I don’t need your people“:
Now Kasich, who is a former Congressman from the Gingrich era, apparently isn't aware but Quotas and Quotas based systems were outlawed by the Supreme Court over 30 years ago by the Bakke Decision. No one has any requirement to accept less talented persons simply to make the "numbers look right."
To be fair, there were two black candidates that Kasich did offer positions too, who turned them down, but then if this is his attitude - one could argue that they probably couldn't be blamed for not wanted to be part of a hostile work environment.
Kasich has argued that he wasn't talking about "Black People" in his response to the Ohio Legislative Black Caucus - he was talking about Democrats - but even that I find rather questionable because ultiately - Is that Supposed to be an Improvement?
Bigotry is still bigotry isn't it?
Now under all this pressure Kasich has finally relented and magically found a Qualified African-American all on his own...
Kasich announced the appointment of Lynn Stevens as Director of Minority Affairs. Stevens is responsible for minority outreach and will act as a liaison to Ohio’s minority communities.
Yeah, see that wasn't hard? Especially since Lynn Stevens - has already had that job for over a month and it's not a Cabinet level position.
Et Token Much? (Look, see - we got us a darkee over here! Case Closed)
I also find this type of reaction highly ironic considering how much Conservatives whine and cry for diversity, representation and "balance" whenever it seems that they're being excluded and outnumbered - like in Hollywood.
Conservative Actors Reveal Life of Secrecy, Lost Jobs Amidst 'Intolerant Left'
Acting veterans Clint Howard and Morgan Brittany talk about 'coming out' in their Republican views, and how it caused one famous co-star to turn his back.
It ain't easy being a Republican in Hollywood, even if your brother is an A-list director and producer. That's what actor Clint Howard told attendees at a California GOP convention over the weekend.
About five years ago "I came out of the closet. In Hollywood. I certainly understand that's dangerous," he said. "If the entertainment industry should turn on me, I'd say, 'well fine.' But for young conservatives, you may hear me speak out but let me tell you: Be careful," he said.
Howard was joined by Morgan Brittany, one of the stars of the 1980s nighttime soap opera Dallas. The pair have more than 100 years of acting experience between them (Brittany's first job was as a child in the late 1950s), and they've noted a leftward slide in the industry and an intolerance for political dissent over the decades.
"I'd go out on location with the Dallas crew," she told members of the California Congress of Republicans in Valencia on Saturday. "Everybody in the van was bashing (President Reagan). I never said anything because I thought I'd lose my job. And I probably would have lost my job. I got to a point later on, after Dallas was over and I had my two children, that I said, 'enough is enough. I'm not going to be silent any longer'," she said.
...
Brittany told of building a friendship with actor Ed Asner, a sometimes activist for progressive causes, when the two starred in a stage-play together during the infamous Florida recount that put Republican George W. Bush in the White House over Democrat Al Gore. And she told how she lost Asner's friendship due to politics.
"Every night he just loved me and came in and gave me a big hug," she said. "Then one night he was going crazy about Gore and Bush and stealing the election. I'm backstage and I said, 'Ed, chill, not everybody thinks the way you do'."
"Well, where do I begin?" I swear. It was like a light switch," she said. "He turned to me and said, 'you're not a Republican?' I said, 'yep.' And he said, 'I can't even look at you. I can't even talk to you'."
"From that moment on, he never spoke to me again, except on stage," she said. "This is what we're dealing with. The intolerance of the left."
Yeah, it's not like being a Conservative has destroyed the careers of Robert Duvall, Clint Eastwood, Kelsey Grammar, Danny Aiello, James Belushi, Ernest Borgnine, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Tom Berenger, Ronald Reagan or Arnold Swarzenegger has it?
Maybe Morgan's and Clint's careers aren't going forward all that much because - well, we're talking about Clint ("The Gringch Who Stole Christmas") Howard and Morgan ("Love Boat") Brittany!?
If Morgan didn't openly reveal she was a conservative until 2000 - what exactly was the problem during the last half of the 80's and all the 90's?
Funny how they don't like being forced "into the closet" because other people are so "intolerant", but when it comes to gays in the military - or black people being represented in their state government - or even damn dirty Democrats being included - they don't have Time for Quotas!.
Yeah, right - we can all see how you guys roll.
Maybe all of that helps explain this bit of craziness from Rush Limbaugh
Limbaugh's gross Racial insensitivity and insult against the President of China isn't just an idle joke, it's actually led to Death Threats against a Chinese State Legislator who had the gall and temerity to ask for an apology.
Last week, California State Sen. Leland Yee (D) called on right-wing hate radio host Rush Limbaugh to apologize for mocking Chinese President Hu Jintao and the Chinese language by speaking gibberish “ching chong chang” Chinese on his radio program. Yee, who is Chinese-American and chairs the state Senate Select Committee on Asian and Pacific Islander Affairs, said Limbaugh owes the Chinese-American community an apology for his “pointless and ugly offense.” Naturally, Limbaugh did not apologize, and instead railed against Yee the following day on his radio, calling him out repeatedly by name.
Yee’s call for civility did not sit well with one Limbaugh fan, who responded by sending several racist death threats to Yee’s office this week. “Rush Limbaugh will kick your chink ass and expose you for the fool you are,” the faxes read, threatening him with “death” (warning, contains racial expletives):
Yeah, people draw pictures of a truck dragging Barack Obama's head in a noose behind it should get lots of credibility in this argument.
Whether it's simply being given a fair chance to compete, and not be grossly insulted as being "inferior or ridiculous" - or having your life threatened - It's clear the more conservatives open their mouth of race or diversity issues, the further they insert their foot.
There is simply no excuse and no rational justification for this, None. Republicans and Conservatives should be ashamed of themselves - but naturally - they're not.
