A vast number of Egyptians gathered on Tuesday in Cairo to protest against their dictator, Hosni Mubarak. Now, they are being retaliated against by armed "protesters" who I have to suspect are Mubarak's plainclothes thugs.
It is time for our own US foreign policy to be clear. President Obama needs to formally end all support for Hosni Mubarak.

Mubarak’s dictatorship must end. The Egyptian people deserve freedom.
Earlier this week, The New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristoff put it best. He stated that the U.S. must "make one thing very clear: We stand with the peaceful throngs pleading for democracy, not with those who menace them."
For 30 years, US taxpayers have been forced by our own government to fund dictatorship in Egypt. Every year, US taxpayers have to pay a $10 dictator tax to Mubarak’s regime. That $10 per person adds up to $1.3 billion in military aid a year for a dictatorship that has tortured and oppressed the Egyptian people.
The time has come for President Obama to clearly and boldly declare an end to US support for Egypt’s dictator. With so many Egyptians protesting in the streets, the US must finally join them in their struggle to be free.
