Why?
I was just watching Gibbs on CNN trying to evade questions. When he was asked whether the administration would consider cutting the US aid to Egypt's army, he did everything possible to evade the question.
What is so difficult? There is a horrible dictator in Egypt that has killed over 300 people so far who were demanding democracy and freedom. 300 people dead by Mubarak. Now he sends his police thugs and criminals disguised as "pro-Mubarak supporters" to kill and try to create chaos.
So, why is this democratic administration still tolerating a criminal dictator like Mubarak?
During his election campaign Obama gave passionate speeches about the need to "change" foreign policy and restore the image of the US around the world. Well, here it is. Will he stand up and cut the military aid to the dictator of Egypt? or will he continue to tolerate him and accept him as a legitimate guy who could facilitate an orderly transition? Or is he listening to his Vice president who impressively declared last week that Mubarak is "not a dictator"?
Mubarak is not legitimate. He is a criminal dictator who killed >300 people so far. He is no different than terrible dictators from the past like Pinochet, the Shah and others dictators who had the support of US administrations in the past. If Obama wants to really make a difference he can do it easily. He can cut the military aid to the egyptian government and ask a responsible person from the Egyptian opposition (like El Baradei) to form a unity transition government and organize free elections. It is straight forward. Lets hope that he will do it.
