No details are up on any of the news site, but BREAKING news announced on Tweety's show. Several provisions of the PATRIOT Act were up for renewal today, but were defeated. The regular Republican Party voted for them, but the Tea Party Republicans apparently voted NO! saying that the provisions were too intrusive.
I've always believed that the Tea Party was just the rightmost wing tip of the right wing of the Republican Party, and that I would never agree with them on anything. I'm happy to be proved wrong, although this is likely to be one of the few cases where i'll ever agree with them.
A hat tip to MikeS, who has several posts with details below. It was 26 House Republicans, including most (but not all) of the Tea Party Caucus voting with 122 Democrats to defeat the motion. Since this was brought up under special rules, requiring a 2/3 vote, it failed. The vote might pass under normal procedures, unless we can convince the 60 plus Democrats who voted for it to vote the right way.
