Governor Jan Brewer is relentless. Having squandered many of her State's resources on a pointless, racist immigration bill, she is now countersuing the federal government for their inaction on curbing illegal immigration in the State. Andrea Nill from Think Progress writes yesterday:

Today, Gov. Jan Brewer (R-AZ) announced that she is filing a countersuit against the federal government on behalf of the state of Arizona. The countersuit names several counts, including a "failure to protect Arizona from invasion."

Her dramatics know no bounds. Jan Brewer is the same governor who said that immigrants were drug mules, and mentioned that law enforcement agencies have come across headless bodies in the Arizona desert (there weren't).

That’s right. You can’t make that stuff up. Watch for yourself:

Her words were appalling enough to make it into America’s Voice’s Dirty Dozen last year, and we didn't think it could get much worse than that.  However, her new adventures in hysteria just prove to us that Jan  Brewer's got some deep reserves of crazy ideas.

In other news, Sheriff Joe Arpaio is hitting the headlines again. This time, it’s rumored that he’s thinking about running for Senate now that Jon Kyl (R-AZ) has announced that he’s not seeking re-election.

Two words for you, Arizona — and I say this dripping with trepidation: Oh Boy.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

  •  Just a rumor mind you, Gov. Brewer has a (0+ / 0-)
reputation among insiders as someone who dodged a DWI due to executive privilege. Assuming this is mere gossip, her behavior does demonstrate some lack of a grasp on reality.

She is a one and 1/2 term (the half term thanks to Napolitano) governor.  The sharks are circling as I type.

passing a law that is in conflict with standing US law regarding the treatment of citizens in their state - demanding "papers" is a violation of civil rights as I understand it.  Gov. Brewer is sueing the US govt' because she and her Tea Party minions believe the US gov't hasn't done enough to stop the flow of illegals into AZ.  Yet, the facts are that there have been far more arrests and deportations of illegals during the 2 years of the Obama admin. than during the 8 years of the Bush admin.  And data also suggests that due to AZ negative policies toward Latinos, many legal citizens of Latino heritage have left for friendlier job climate in other states...and fewer illegals are coming into AZ (which after all was the intended outcome).  The actual result of all this is that the Repub. leadership of AZ has so outraged people that few people are visiting the state, moving there, or having conventions or seeking to start businesses there.  The GOPers have killed any chance of having any Latino, Native American, black or Thinking People's voting support in the future.  All they have left for their base are angry, bigoted, I believe they will be gone in 2-4 years....but so much damage will be done during that time, I don't know if that state will recover.
