Well, I'm not too adept at this in the first place, so it takes a strong motivating factor to encourage me to write a diary. This morning I read a blog post in the Philadelphia Inquirer by Robert I. Field that claims that the very conservative think tank Heritage Foundation actually came up with the idea of mandated health care back in 1990. Once my blood stopped boiling, I thought, "Ah ha. This is definitely worth a diary."
I laboriously copied and inserted not only a link to the article, but also to the report on the Heritage Foundation website. I previewed the diary, made some adjustments, then looked around for the "publish" button. Hmmm, we don't have one anymore? What's a "publication manager?" I find the so-called publication manager. OK, I hit publish. Nope, no deal. The diary has to have a tag. I follow all the links to try to figure out the appropriate tag, and enter what I hope will be sufficient. Back to the Publication Manager. Somehow, with all the back and forth I needed to do to figure out what I was doing, I see that the Publication Manager has "managed" to create two blank diaries in addition to the one I actually wrote. Now, that's management!!
Silly me. I tried to delete the first blank one. After two reassurance (yes, I really do want to delete this diary) questions, I hit delete. Nothing happens. Alright, I'll go ahead and publish the complete one then. I hit Publish Now, and get some kind of long-winded error message. Hmmm. I think maybe the site is still trying to delete the first diary. But no, it is still there on the list.
Guess what happened next? I hit delete for the blank diary again -- and it deleted the REAL ONE.
If anyone imagines I'm going to start that whole process over again -- well, no.
But I really really wanted you to know about the Heritage Foundation, so you can click on the link above. If it works this time.
Grrrr. I bet it was "my fault," right?
