According Politico's Andy Barr, the "Birther debate [is] alive across [the] U.S." Need proof?
The opening of 2011 state legislative sessions has been accompanied by a spate of birther-related bills, the clearest indication yet that the controversy surrounding President Barack Obama’s place of birth will continue to simmer throughout his reelection campaign.
Barr cites bills introduced by a Republican state representative from Texas, a Republican state senator from Oklahoma, and a Republican state representative from Missouri -- notice a pattern here? Oh, and a Republican state representative from Connecticut and a Republican state senator from Arizona might introduce similar bills, so the "across the U.S." is covered.
As for the claim by Barr that there is a "controversy" about President Obama's place of birth? That's covered by Barr himself in the third paragraph:
... his campaign’s posting online his certificate of live birth in the state of Hawaii.
In other words, it's not a debate and it's not a controversy.
It's random Republicans who act as if that certificate of live birth doesn't exist so they can continue to peddle their racism under the guise of concern for the Constitution. And they'll continue to do it as long as the traditional media gives them a platform and pretends that there is a controversy with two sides and is worthy of debate.
There isn't and it isn't.
