Welcome, Welcome Back, or Welcome Home. GUS as you are willing and able.
GUS (Gave Up Smoking) is a community support diary for Kossacks in the midst of quitting smoking. Any supportive comments, suggestions or positive distractions are appreciated. We avoid discussion of political issues. If you are quitting or even thinking about quitting, please -- join us! GUS Library at dKosopedia is organically evolving, and stocked with free-range information: quit-smoking links, helpful GUS diary writing tips, and the GUS buddy list.
OK, you were on the schedule to write a GUS diary and you wrote it. How does it become a GUSsack Group diary? Right now we just tag them GUS and post them. And it works. Groups have four levels of membership. I didn't make up the terms and they may change so I'm going to give the current ones and use my own.
Follower = Member or GUSsack
Member = Contributing Editor
BlogEditor = Editor
BlogAdmin = Admin
If you are a Member of the GUSsacks by virtue of Following the Group or the Tag the way to make it a GUSsack diary is to publish it and wait for an Editor or Admin to notice it. You might even send the group a Message.
If you are a Contributing Editor you can put it directly in the Group Queue and wait for an Editor or Admin to notice it.
If you are an Editor or Admin you can Publish it directly to the Group. Contributing Editors may not schedule publication.
I posted three diaries earlier today with the GUS tag. They are worth looking at. This diary is late and it's time to publish. I'll answer questions in the comments.
The first diary today was published directly to the Group and an admin or editor was able to edit it after publication. The advantage is obvious, an editor can update the schedule without the diarist having to do anything.
The second diary today was posted to the queue and an editor edited and published it. The advantage is obvious, a Contributing Editor can write the good stuff and add it to the queue and an editor can put some polish on it, schedule it and publish it. A disadvantage is that the diarist might not be available to tend the diary.
The third diary this morning was published directly but not to the group. Later, an editor republished it to the group. This is what would happen if a GUSsack who is not an Admin, Editor, or Contributing Editor publishes a diary. Garrett has written a great diary with illustrations on how to republish a diary to a group
The third way does not have the advantages of the first two ways. Editors can't edit or schedule a diary that has already been posted. It does have the advantage, however, to the diarist that the diary is the diarist's. Only the diarist can edit or delete it.
Those who believe that Group Diaries are the way to go would do well to read the three diaries and their comment threads.
There are now somewhere between one and two billion GUSsacks. If you've had some experience with the effects of smoking, and want to write a GUS diary or host an open thread?
