Personally, I feel Huckabee is the greatest threat to Obama. It's either he or Romney, and I'll get to Romney at the end of this diary. First the good news. It appears that maybe, perhaps, possibly (definitely if you ask some people), Huckabee is not running. Here's a roundup of the rumors.
NMPolitics reports:
The surest sign that former Arkansas Governor Mike Hukabee is "out" for 2012 is the mortgage on his $3.2 million Florida panhandle beach House. Sources tell me that the Huckabees put a very minimal payment down on this retirement mansion. Rather than preparing to be first lady, Mrs. Huckabee is busy drape shopping.
There are a lot of rumors out there that he needs to hold on to his Fox job to accommodate his commitment to public service cushy lifestyle.
Politicons.net reports that:
Huckabee’s presidential committee Huckabee for President, Inc has filed termination paperwork with the Federal Election Commission.
They speculate he may be reorganizing.
The DesMoines Register has a lot more to say about it. To summarize (the article is a bit long):
• Huckabee doesn't plan to announce until this summer, later than everyone else.
• He skipped CPAC.
• His 2008 campaign manager became the chief of staff to a freshman Tennessee congressman.
• He absolutely must win Iowa to be viable, and his timetable makes that difficult.
• Other candidates are likely to siphon off support, and his base will likely abandon him before he makes his decision.
So as for why we shouldn't have anything to worry about Romney, well, YouTube speaks louder than words:
