So the Obama administration thinks it can get on AIPAC's good side by taking an immoral and historically shameful stance in favor of illegal Israeli settlements. What an absolute disappointment and disgrace.
But sure, [a couple of hard sighs], we tell ourselves, this was only a tactical maneuver, a smart political play, going out on a limb for a tough reelection campaign and not wanting to piss off the most powerful lobby in Washington. A little moral flexibility is worth ensuring a long term progressive agenda right? Isn't it better than what President John Bolton would have done?
So.... fine... we know the reasons. We know too well. But was the task at least worth the sacrifice? Can we at least count on the pro-Israel votes and AIPAC money [laundered American tax payer aid] for reelection now? Let's see the reaction of the AIPAC owned media:
the American ambassador to the United Nations telegraphed — through words, body language, and her anti-Israel tantrum — that she didn’t support the policy she was implementing on behalf of the president.
You see, the vote was fine, but the body language was anti Israel (and you know what that means regarding "semetism").
What exactly was this public display of petulance supposed to accomplish? Having disappointed the Arab world by vetoing the proposal, was the point also to disappoint the Israelis by joining the UN lynch mob in words but not deeds?
That's right. This display of arrogant "petulance" means US is joining the "UN Lynch Mob". The Lynch Mob being 14 out of 15 UNSC members, all of America's European and NATO allies, 122 General Assembly members... notorious antisemitic governments like Norway, UK, South Africa, El Salvador, Japan, Mexico and New Zealand!
The Obama Administration has only itself to blame. If there's one lesson to be learned from the brave revolutionaries over at Tahrir Square it's that you stay your ground. Don't accept any injustice and humiliation. It's never worth it. It never has been. If you neglect it today, justice will catch up with you tomorrow in ways you don't wan to find out. Furthermore, it won't even accomplish narrow-minded short goals in domestic politics.
I'm sure the good folks at Commentary and other AIPAC occupied media cannot forgive this "gesticulative transgression" against the "poor defenseless" religious extremists occupying other people's lands based on ancient promises from the Almighty. Forget the measly 3 $Billion tax payers pay Israel directly, a first-world nuclear power with much better social services than our own. Forget all that. How much is diplomatic maneuvering like this going to cost us? how many $Trillions of US investments just went down the toilet when pro-US dictatorships fall? How much anger and ill will did this buy American troops, American tourists and American business around the world? What is the monetary cost of that?
Make no mistake, America. These settlers' illegal presence, multi-story villas, swimming pools and Uzis are all funded off your broke-ass back as you struggle to keep your job, stay in your foreclosed homes and protect your kids' education. Is this a harsh way of putting it? Maybe. But it's the truth.
