Goal Thermometer

A big positive development just happened in Wisconsin.

Before adjourning until March 1st, the Republican controlled state Senate Assembly rescinded their vote to move to final passage on the bill to strip state employees of the right to collectively bargain. This makes it possible to amend the bill again. From a local reporter over twitter:

@news3jessica Jessica Arp

Before adjourning, Republicans rescinded their vote to go to final passage, making the bill now amendable again.

This is huge. It’s a clear sign that Republicans are wavering and are now open to changing the bill. The pressure is working.

The protests are going to continue all weekend. The Democratic State Senators remain across state lines. As long as they keep up this remarkable fight, we need to stand with them.

Please, donate $14 to the Wisconsin State Senate Democratic committee, one for each of the 14 heroic Senators.

Update: The state Assembly rescinded their vote to move to final passage, not the Senate. As numerous commenters correctly pointed out, the Senate can't do anything right now, since there is an absence of a quorum.

Keep correcting me when I am wrong, and please keep donating to the Wisconsin state Senate Democratic Committee.

Update 2: We are over 500 donations! Can we reach 750? Please, chip in $14

Update 3: Holy crap, we hit 750. You guys must really be behind this thing in Wisconsin. How about $1,000 people giving $14?

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
