Last week, Seneca Doane posted the  DK4 Roll Call , which is a diary that takes a roll call of everyone here, and where you can tell us a little about yourself. This morning, wxorknot posted  a diary  inquiring about the history behind your username.

I love diaries like that. I've always loved finding out who is behind the keyboard, because it humanizes us. If you interact with someone online as a person, instead of just text on a screen, it enables you to carry an actual discussion, and (hopefully) a factual debate that doesn't devolve into meta falmewarz all the time.

This time, instead of knowing hard facts about you (Name, DOB, SSN, Blood Type, etc), I want to know about your experiences and history. Consider this diary the Lockup of DailyKos -- no real purpose, just filler because the world obviously doesn't produce news during the American weekend.

Feel free to answer as much or as little as you want. If a question hits a sore spot or you don't want to share, no worries, just skip it. :) If there's stuff not here that you'd like to share (say, a groundbreaking story that would put me on the map for having such a revelation in my diary?), please do so!

Jump the Soros Squiggle for the questionnaire.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

NAME: Dennis (that's Mr. Weatherdude to you)
Date of Signup: September 10, 2009

1 -- My good friend Libra (who sadly doesn't post here) introduced me to DailyKos in 2008 at some point. She gave me a few liberal websites to read, and DailyKos was the one I liked the most.

2 -- I read on and off for almost a year, until I signed up on Sept 10, 2009. After thatI forgot I had made an account until November of 2009. I made my first comment in C&J, and the rest is history.

3 -- We got our first computer when I was in 3rd grade, so 1999 I think.

4 -- We got internet access a few months after we got the computer.

5 -- They taught us about computer in school, but I taught myself most of the stuff I know now (about both the internet and computers). I have a knack for picking up on how to use technological stuff. I was able to set up a Nintendo when I was 5 without any problems.

    6 -- I'm a student. Not a spectacular one, but here I am.

7 -- I was born in New Jersey. We lived there for three years until we moved to Woodbridge, VA. We moved around 4 or 5 times within the same city, but I miraculously stayed within the same school boundaries my whole time through K-12.

8 -- I would be the horrendous bed I had when I was in high school. They don't make it anymore, because I think it's illegal to make now. It was a behemoth captain's bed and took 3 days to put together. It creaked, groaned, and was able to put up with a lot over the years.

9 -- No, but I have been in the back of a police car. Some neighborhood douche beat me up once and the police drove me up the street to point out his house. A few hours later, he was at our door crying, weak at the knees, with his angry mother and two police officers standing behind him, apologizing profusely.

10 -- Eyes and smile...then hair, because I'm superficial like that. Mental wise would be kind and funny without any hint of douchey.

11 -- Sadly, no. I do have lots of corgi pictures though. You know the "crazy cat lady" everyone knows? I'm gonna be the crazy corgi guy down the street. :)

    12 -- I don't know, really.

13 -- Colorado is the Shiznit, Bill in Portland Maine, and triciawyse. Because, really...if I had to be locked in a bank safe for one year with three other people, I'd need to keep laughing so I didn't go psycho and kill everyone.

14 -- Fiorello LaGuardia and Teddy Roosevelt.

15 -- We found a way to use liquids found under Earth's surface as an energy source with which we can propel large objects long distances. Okay, this is why we don't elect weatherdude to greet George Washington when he comes to the future. Got it?

16 -- Sitting in someone's lap (my dad's I think), waiting for a bottle of milk to come out of the fridge, with ABC Nightly News on in the background.

17 -- Shut down Fox, take away everyone's liberties, offer each of Canada's 13 administrative divisons statehood and instill socialism over everyone. Mwahahaha!

    18 -- CAHS-icks.

    19 -- National Weather Service

20 -- Why is weatherdude asking himself questions again?

BONUS -- Why is there a Cheeto stuck to your arm? (Answer: Daily Double!)

  •  Julie Waters / Sep 2005 (10+ / 0-)

1 -- Markos posted a piece about me on an open thread.

    2 -- Not long

3 -- Very very very long ago

    4 -- Mid 1990s

    5 -- Practice, practice, practice

6 -- Web design, photography, teaching, and hopefully one other thing in the very near future.

7 -- I'd prefer not to answer this.

    8 -- I don't know anything about Ikea.

9 -- Much to my surprise, no.

10 -- I'll hold back from answering this one, too :)

    11 -- Two cats.

    12 -- Geeks.

13 -- No one.  I wouldn't want to drive the other people insane.

    14 -- Bernie Sanders, because he's mine :)

15 -- Birds lift small things.  Planes lift big things.  If you wanted real science, you'd give me Ben Franklin to work with.

    16 -- Also not answering.

    17 -- Party like it's 1999

    18 -- Koss-ACKs.

19 -- Weather Underground, classic mode.

20 -- What would you like me to ask?

BONUS -- Would you be willing to start at $75k?

Where are we going and what are we doing in this handbasket?

They call me CW for short
    July 11, 2008

1 -- How did you find DailyKos? My libertarian lawyer suggested it over beers one evening.

2 -- How long did you read DailyKos before signing up? At least four years.

3 -- When did you get your first computer? We had a C-64 back in 1986

4 -- When did you first get regular internet access, either at home or elsewhere? Back in 1994, my college got the internet. My first question was "What the fuck is the Internet." Two years earlier they all those artsy commercials promising an information superhighway, a term that has not been used in probably 18 years.

5 -- How did you learn to use both the computer and the internet? Someone smarter than me showed me how to turn it on. I went from there.

6 -- What do you do for a living? If not employed, what do you normally do? I'm normally a writer. If anyone in Pa. has work, let me know.

7 -- Where were you born? Where did you grow up? What was it like growing up there? Central Pa. and I just moved back. Could be worse, but there are awesome people here.

8 -- If you were a large piece of Ikea furniture, what would you be and why? A bookshelf. Even after getting rid of a bunch of books, that still represents about half of my belongings. And then there's the Kindle.

9 -- So...[looks around cautiously]...you ever been arrested? If so, why? Well, not for real by actual police.

10 -- What is the most attractive physical AND mental trait on the sex(es) to which you're attracted? Hair and brains.

11 -- Do you have any pets? What kind? How many? Bonus points to corgi owners. :D My mom took my cat. :-(

12 -- In what stereotypical high school clique would you place yourself, now and then? Then: geeks. Now: I just joined the Climate Hawks group and that feels like a clique

13 -- If you had to spend 1 year in a bank safe with three Kossacks, who are they and why? I can only pick three... Try getting us all together in a room and see what happens.

14 -- Who is your favorite politician and why? Bernie for the Fila-Bernie

15 -- You've somehow brought George Washington to 2011. Explain airplanes to him, using science he'd understand from the 1700s. I think I'd skip that and explain to him how the Tea Party highjacked  his legacy. that ought to piss it off.

16 -- What is your first memory? Waking up this afternoon. It was a long night.

17 -- If you were ruler of Glenn Beck's new US Caliphate for one day, what would you do? Exile Glenn Beck.

18 -- Kossacks: COS-icks or CAHS-icks? The latter, just like the Ukrainian warriors.

19 -- From where do you get your weather information? (TV, Radio, Weather Site, etc.) I stick my head out the window. If I get wet, it's raining. If I get white, it's snowing. If I lose my head, it's too windy.

20 -- If you could ask me (weatherdude) anything, what would you ask me?

BONUS -- What is one question you'd like someone to ask of you? Can I buy you a beer?

  •  17 (13+ / 0-)

    1 -- I can't rightly remember

    2 -- 1.5 minutes

    3 -- 1984

    4 -- 1995

    5 -- I r autodidact

    6 -- International stuff

    7 -- Chicago / Chicago and it's burbs.
I loved living in Chicago, hated the burbs, and moved back here as soon as I possibly could.

    8 -- A rug

    9 -- No

10 -- Yeah, I'm not going to say the physical part.  Mental part?  Wicked, knife sharp intelligence.

11 -- In the past, I have had menageries.  Not any more.

12 -- In what stereotypical high school clique would you place yourself, now = The Introverts Club.  Then = The artsy crowd

13 -- Deoliver 47, plf515, Ojibwa.  Because I would learn a tremendous amount from them, and that would make the time fly.

14 -- The President.  Because in addition to being brilliant, and effective, he has an admirable mix of a secure ego, and not thinking too much of himself.

    15 -- I do not speak science.

16 -- Who the heck knows?

    17 -- Execute him.

    18 -- KAH Sacks

    19 -- weather.com

20 -- How the heck did you get 18 so wrong?

    BONUS -- Nothing at all.

1 - Found via Politico during the 2008 election discussions.  Lurked for about a year or so then finally joined.

    2 - A year.

    3 - 1987.

    4 - Dialup, probably in 1995; broadband - 1999.

5 - Taught myself during the MS-DOS era.

6 - Work as an Operator Mechanic at a gas turbine power plant in California.

7 - Honolulu, HI, was there for about 2 years until my parents were transferred (both were in the Army) to Florida for 4 years, then Texas, where I grew up for the rest of my chlidhood.  Growing up in small town Texas, despite what the vast majority of Kossacks think, was not a bad thing.  I learned the respect you get for doing an honest day's work, how to be polite (even to those different than you) and respectful to others.  While there wasn't much there to do for kids growing up, in my adult years, I look back on it and wouldn't change it.  It wasn't always roses, but, I cannot imagine growing up in a huge city where the high school has nearly as many people as my home town did.

8 - I wouldn't own IKEA furniture, thus your question is completley meaningless to me.  I like things that last more than 2 years, thank you.

9 - No.  But, I did get a ticket for minor in possesion of alcohol back when I was 19.

10 - Mental - a woman needs to be able to think for themselves, a man is no excuse for not having their own thoughts and dreams.  Physical - I like short women, since I'm pretty short myself (ick, 5'4").

    11 - 1 cat.

12 - Band nerds.  I love music and performing, especially marching band.  Did concert and jazz bands, but the crowds for them were small in such a small school.  Marching band in college was an experience I will never forget.

13 - Hmm.... no clue.  I don't follow individual Kossacks, I read every comment and offer my recommends only for those that I agree with.

14 - George Washington - a man that did not want power, that is something to be respected in today's society.  He served only because the people wanted him to.  Too many people forget that power does not mean anything.  A person can be completely content and have no power over anything, besides their own life, at all.

15 - Hmm.... I'd have to look up what was common knowledge in the 1700's.  I figure that it would be something like a carriage in the sky like the birds.

    16 - I honestly don't know.

17 - I'd fix the tax system/budgeting process.  If not that, I'd change how bills in Congress are done.  Every single item is an individual bill.  Too much pork earmarks/special interests are done in bills and honestly, the public finds out later after the bill has already become law.  No bill should ever be > 100 pages in legalese.  If an item is worthy of funding, it should be able to stand on it's own.

    18 - CAH-S-ACKS (ya, I know...).

19 - Probably the local news on the radio or the Weather Channel if I'm travelling.

20 - Is it going to be a hot summer this year in southern California like 2007 or a more mild summer like last year?  I'm betting on more like 2007, since the el nino system is over (isn't that right, we're in a la nina now?).

    1. I think a Google search

    2. maybe two or three weeks

    3. Early 90's.

    4. Again, early 90's.

    5. Trial and much error.

    6. RN

    7. Born in Hindman, KY--in a doctor's office, since there was no hospital close by. Raised right there in Knott County--it was a very rural area. We farmed and kept livestock, and my dad ran his own construction business.

    8. I would be a big, practical storage cabinet--because I care more about things that make life better and easier, and less about superfluous fluff.

    9. Never been arrested--knock on wood.

    10. Kindness toward others.

    11. I have 4 pooties. They are my spoiled rotten babies.

    12. I don't think I would fit into any of them.

    13. Nurse Kelley, Goldendragon1994 (my Kossack kid) and whichever Kossack is the best engineer--so we could figure out a way to crack the safe so we cheat and get out before a year was over.

    14. FDR--because he had the balls to do what needed to be done in order to save the country.

    15. I'd just teach him the science we know now--then explain it.

    16. Playing outside under a big Magnolia tree we had in our yard.

    17. Throw him, Bill O'Reilly, Ann Coulter, and the whole Fox News crew in jail. Then I'd get to work prosecuting George Bush and Dick Cheney for war crimes. Then I'd start confiscating the Wall Street thieves' assets, and give the money back to the people.

    18. Kah-sics

    19. Weather.com and Weather underground

    20. I'd only ask you questions I think you would be willing to answer... I don't pry into other people's lives--I let them do the talking, and reveal what they will.

BONUS--They can ask me anything they want--whether or not I answer might be a different story.

1 -- How did you find DailyKos? Can't remember anymore, but I'm pretty sure it was via the original "Dean for America" blog

2 -- How long did you read DailyKos before signing up? Well, there was no signup when I started here, you just posted comments and made up a name, so I signed up as soon as they opened signups, I think I missed a 3 digit UID by a couple of hours.
    :(

3 -- When did you get your first computer? June 1996

4 -- When did you first get regular internet access, either at home or elsewhere? see #3

5 -- How did you learn to use both the computer and the internet? Bought a Gateway 350, got AOL, taught myself, with a lot of help from sites like Bravenet

6 -- What do you do for a living? If not employed, what do you normally do? Admin support, when I'm employed

7 -- Where were you born? Where did you grow up? What was it like growing up there? Clark County, WA. It really was a lot like "Leave it to Beaver" here, in the 1970s. Fun Factoid about me: the local Girls Softball Association has a mascot called "Aggie", from it's inception in the mid 1970s, chosen by the association President at the time, Gene Ashford. I am "Aggie". True story.

8 -- If you were a large piece of Ikea furniture, what would you be and why? I've never been in an Ikea store and wouldn't know what their furniture looks like. But based on my body configuration and personality, I'd say a sturdy coffee table, because it's used every day, and it's where all the great talk in the house happens.

9 -- So...[looks around cautiously]...you ever been arrested? If so, why? Yes, decline to elucidate further

10 -- What is the most attractive physical AND mental trait on the sex(es) to which you're attracted? Smart and funny.

11 -- Do you have any pets? What kind? How many? Bonus points to corgi owners. :D Cats, multiples, indoor-outdoor via kitteh doors. They are better than dogs, they love you just as much, but don't demand the same amount of attention as their canine counterparts.

12 -- In what stereotypical high school clique would you place yourself, now and then? Geek squad.

13 -- If you had to spend 1 year in a bank safe with three Kossacks, who are they and why? Easy answer. Meteor Blades for his depth of knowledge on a wide range of interests; Eric Lewis (ericlewis0) the author of Animal Nuz for his funny insights; nyceve because if there is a living saint, she's it.

14 -- Who is your favorite politician and why? Howard Dean; because Howard brought a 2 decade Independent in out of the wilderness and made a life-long Democrat out of me.

15 -- You've somehow brought George Washington to 2011. Explain airplanes to him, using science he'd understand from the 1700s. It's not magic, even if it seems like it is. I don't really understand it myself, but trust me, it's science.. Not good, but the best I can do, somedays, even I'm not sure why they don't just fall out of the sky on general purposes...

16 -- What is your first memory? Being about 2 years old, standing on a public school bus (seeing only knees and legs), going to school as a "show and tell" for my cousins, in Wisconson (Burlington). I know it's a 'true' memory, my mom can't believe I remember this, but tells me it did happen. Why my cousins took me as a "show and tell" story, I don't know.

17 -- If you were ruler of Glenn Beck's new US Caliphate for one day, what would you do? Turn Glenn Beck into a "Man without a country", and put him adrift on the cold, north Atlantic in a leaky rowboat.

    18 -- Kossacks: COS-icks or CAHS-icks? CAH-sacks

19 -- From where do you get your weather information? (TV, Radio, Weather Site, etc.) Mostly, I look out the door/window, but I live in a region where the joke about weather is actually true.... If you don't like the weather, wait five minutes - it'll change.

20 -- If you could ask me (weatherdude) anything, what would you ask me? What made you so interested in weather?

BONUS -- What is one question you'd like someone to ask of you? Donde esta el baño?

1 -- How did you find DailyKos?  I followed more and more links here from Bushwatch.com

2 -- How long did you read DailyKos before signing up?
Perhaps a year?  It got to be ridiculous...

3 -- When did you get your first computer? It was a PCjr that I got in the fall of 1984.

4 -- When did you first get regular internet access, either at home or elsewhere?
I called in to the university library when I was in grad school in 1991 (spring) but when I moved to Missouri for a job I was doing dialup in the fall of 1991.

5 -- How did you learn to use both the computer and the internet?  Taught myself.

6 -- What do you do for a living? If not employed, what do you normally do?  I teach.

7 -- Where were you born? Where did you grow up? What was it like growing up there?   I am a native-born Kansan (which means a Jayhawk!).  It was great.  And I still like going back.

8 -- If you were a large piece of Ikea furniture, what would you be and why?  I would like to say a lovely lamp of some sort.

9 -- So...[looks around cautiously]...you ever been arrested? If so, why?  Nope.  I am way too boring for that.

10 -- What is the most attractive physical AND mental trait on the sex(es) to which you're attracted?  brains...

11 -- Do you have any pets? What kind? How many? Bonus points to corgi owners. :D
No corgis, but I do have the triplets of orange goodness.

12 -- In what stereotypical high school clique would you place yourself, now and then?
I was in the group that ate lunch in the library (really, we skipped lunch and hung out in the library).

13 -- If you had to spend 1 year in a bank safe with three Kossacks, who are they and why?
Meteor Blades, Land of Enchantment, and Blue Jersey Mom.  Or could I get Loki?

14 -- Who is your favorite politician and why?
At the moment, it is Howard Dean.  One of my all time favourites is George McGovern, but I am fond of Eleanor Roosevelt, too.

15 -- You've somehow brought George Washington to 2011. Explain airplanes to him, using science he'd understand from the 1700s.
I guess I would talk about wind and kites, and ... and...  they are really cool.

16 -- What is your first memory?
I swear to high heaven it is JFK's funeral.  No one believes me but no one can tell me who else's funeral it would have been.  It would have been 1964 at the latest, because we had a maid who came in a couple of times a week, and I was still in a crib.

17 -- If you were ruler of Glenn Beck's new US Caliphate for one day, what would you do?  Install net neutrality as a non-negotiable absolute.  If you sell access the internet you have to abide by net neutrality.  In all things.

    18 -- Kossacks: COS-icks or CAHS-icks? Kaw-sacks.

19 -- From where do you get your weather information? (TV, Radio, Weather Site, etc.)
I still my head out the door and look...  No, really -- my local weather on tv is so awful I can't trust it at all.

20 -- If you could ask me (weatherdude) anything, what would you ask me?
What is wrong with me that I sometimes root for the hurricanes?  Is that normal?

BONUS -- What is one question you'd like someone to ask of you?
Would you like me to make a donation to the art gallery?

    4 -- 1991

5 -- Used mainframes in college, so learning a PC was pretty easy.

6 -- Environmental Consultant, specializing in air pollution measurements.

7 -- Ventura, CA.  Was a fairly small town in the '60-'70's when I was a kid.  Was a great small town atmosphere to grow up in.  The downside was it was lily white with no diversity of any type.

8 -- I hate these kind of questions.  I guess a comfy chair because I want everyone to be comfortable...

    9 -- no

10 -- Physical...  Good Hair?  Mental...  a very creative person

11 -- No corgi's, but almost everything else...  Two Great Danes, a pit mix, a catahola mix on the dog list.  Also three horses and of course a donkey named Phobe...

12 -- In what stereotypical high school clique would you place yourself, now and then?  I was able to move easily in and out of any group - Jocks, Geeks, burnouts.

13 -- If you had to spend 1 year in a bank safe with three Kossacks, who are they and why? l.  Buhdy (remember him?) - cause I love his quirky humor 2.  BlackWaterDog - for her heart and passion and 3. WeatherDude - we could talk science all year.

14 -- Who is your favorite politician and why?  past - FDR for doing the right things to save the country, JFK for inspiring us to reach for the stars,   present - I do like Obama and feel he is destined for greatness,  but Howard Dean is my kind of guy for telling it straight and uniting the Democrats (like herding cats) during the 2006,2008 elections.

15 -- You've somehow brought George Washington to 2011. Explain airplanes to him, using science he'd understand from the 1700s.  Oh - I'd probably make paper and balsa models and try to explain lift etc. -

BONUS -- What is one question you'd like someone to ask of you?  Would you believe it - you've just won the MegaMillions lottery worth $150,000,000?

    March '08

My brother (IsleOfMan) turned me on to it.

    +/- one year.

    First computer: 1993.

    First intertoobs access: 1993.

    Trial and error.

    I'm a professional musician.

Born in Marlblorough, MA; grew up in Bolton, MA and Houston, Tx. Houston was hot.

I'd be a large bookcase. I'm running out of space for my books!

My attorney suggests that I don't answer this question.

Attractions: physical, eyes, general bearing. Mental: intelligence and a well-developed snarkabellum.

No pets currently, but I a cat person.

Locked up with? Texas Blue Dot, Terry Pinder and Weatherdude.

FDR. Need I explain why? I didn't think so.

"They are like big metal birds".

It's hard to say what my first memory is, but an early one is my family coming home at night and watching the Watergate hearings, though I was too young to understand what it was they were talking about.

What would I do? I'd issue a fatwah. On Beck.

KOSSACKS. Like, you know, the Russian cavalry men.

Wx from radio, mostly. I don't watch much TV. Or, the computer.

If I could ask wxdude a question? "Will you marry me?".
    (kidding).

Question to be asked of me? "Will you marry me? " (Not kidding).

    Great set of questions, wxdude!

    This space left blank intentionally.
