Groups allow group editing of diaries. Editors in the group can edit your diary, if your diary is published as a group diary.
Group editing is very useful in some circumstances. In some circumstances, you will not want it.
If you do not want other people to edit your diaries, but you do want the diary published by a group,
- First publish your diary, in the regular non-group way, as yourself.
- Then republish the diary, by the group.
All diaries are published through the publication manager. The moment of decision, whether your diary is editable by others or not, happens there.
Note: This diary is also available in a short version.
Now, Bullwinkle J. Moose is a Kossack:
And Rocket J. Squirrel is a Kossack too:
Rocky and Bullwinkle teamed up to form a group, The Rocky And Bullwinkle Show.
Two other Kossacks
recent signups both, wrote off to The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show, asking for an invitation.
Which invitation, Bullwinkle sent out. Then Boris and Natasha were made Editors in the group.
At 7 a.m. this Sunday morning, Rocky posted the weekly Rocky and Bullwinkle Show diary. The diary hit the rec list:
No one is really sure what happened next. But after Rocky's diary hit the rec list, it suddenly said this:
A møøse once bit my sister.
I bite moose. And squirrel.
GBCW.
Which is too bad, about Rocky's resulting banning. But rules are rules.

How to Republish
Republishing for groups is covered, with a step-by-step guide, here.
If you do not want group editors to be able to edit your diary,
- First publish the diary as yourself, in the regular way.
- On the diary page, hit republish and select a group. This will put the diary on your group queue.
- Go to your group queue page. Find the diary on the list. Republish it.
Recommendations
- Groups should consider spelling out their policies and practices about degrees of collaboration in group diaries.
- Use queue notes to spell out degrees of collaboration for particular diaries.
- Small groups can get away with more collaborative practices than large groups.
- Rec-listers, controversial authors, flame warriors, users with institutional and academic affiliations, and others, might want to just always keep their diaries uneditable by anyone else.
KosBusters! is a group of DK4 beta testers who decided to continue bug hunting and feature testing now that DK4 is the official platform of Daily Kos.
In addition to locating bugs and testing newly released features, we plan to post informational diaries—such as this one—to aid everyone in using and navigating the site. If you have any questions, we are happy to answer them as best we know how. We are not currently accepting new members.
