Happy Birthday to KosAbility! When I posted the kickoff diary one year ago today, those of us who were involved in starting the series had no idea just how successful it would be. Today, one year later, 187 diaries proudly carry the KosAbility tag.
I need help or advice about what to do with KosAbility's archives, both past and future.
SAVING THE PAST
Most of the 182 KA diaries posted on DK3 were posted from users' own accounts. The new KosAbility group only has the 26 DK3 diaries posted from the group account, not the additional 156 diaries containing the tag. Can this be changed?
This isn't just a matter of preserving history, although that's important. KosAbility diaries have saved lives. If the entire series of diaries could be found in one place, anyone would be able to use the nifty new List View to find what they need. (Not many users have the patience or knowledge to do a multi-tag search.)
SAVING THE FUTURE
Two KA-tagged diaries posted since launch appears in the group's list of diaries, but not two others bearing the tag, including this diary by Adam B. This SNAFU took place because I re-posted the first DK4 diary to the group as soon as it went up, not because I had the slightest idea what I was doing, but because I was confused, my diarist was confused ... hell we were ALL confused that Sunday! I follow the KA tag and thus saw the two other diaries, and I regularly check the KA queue like a good admin, but it never occurred to me until today that I should also be doing a regular tag search/repost to the group if preserving diaries in one place is one of the primary goals of KosAbility.
I'm beginning to understand that this whole groups thing was conceived to have one function, assumed by others to have different functions, and - just to make it even more confusing - designed so that a group, once created, cannot be deleted. I would probably just delete the KosAbility group (if that were allowed) and do what we've always done, except for one teeny, tiny little problem: Group Accounts went the way of DK3. KosAbility is listed as a blog admin, but our password has been changed.
I'm sorry if I've confused anyone, but I'm so confused and frustrated I could bite myself. How could something that sounded so easy and useful during beta testing get so ... so ... hard? Is it just me? I swear, the follow vs join, tag vs repost, follow AND join, and tag AND repost permutations are beginning to sink in, and I don't think I'm up to the job. Group Admin appears to be above my pay grade.
It was so simple on DK3. Tags gave cohesion to groups like KosAbility. In addition to "regularly scheduled" postings, anyone who found a good, on-topic diary could add the tag and "move" that diary to our bookmark. I'd like to see the same thing happen now, i.e., diaries with the KosAbility tag would automatically show up in the KosAbility Group's list of diaries without having to be republished.
