On Sunday, February 20th, nineteen intrepid Blood Elf level one noobs took off in their finest elementary garb from Sunstrider Isle.  Their goal:  Light's Hope Chapel in Eastern Plaguelands.  While not quite the ominous vicious-wind-soundtracked necro-land it used to be, the aggro range of a level 1 character trudging through rough terrain with level fourtiesh mobs resulted in a fair amount of conversations with the spirit rezzer.

Note: you can't invite Level 1s to a raid group, so it was hard to see how everyone was doing mid-race.  Maybe next event will be a level 85 scavenger hunt.

A few brave toons tried to go by the Orb of Translocation route, getting instantly from Silvermoon to Undercity.  While the route via Undercity was slightly longer, there was a chance that the direct road would save a few deaths.  Unfortunately, the orb route turned out to be sub-optimal.  The top finishers all came through Thalassian Pass, which is incidentally the coolest location name in the game.

The contestants were closely grouped through Eversong Woods and most of the way through the Ghostlands.  Once through the Pass things started to get corpsy.  See, the greater the level difference between a toon an the surrounding mobs, the larger the range from which they aggro.  Imagine strolling down a clearly marked path minding your own business when a little plaguebat screeches out of nowhere and rips your head off.  Such was the fate of the baby racers saturday.  Once dead, you can use the spirit rezzer and try an alternate route, or run back to your corpse and use the ressurection gap to inch closer to your goal.  Some (Senta) decided to finish the race as a ghost.

Despite not yet being able to vanish, the top three finishers turned out to be rogues whose names I unfortunately forgot.  A hunter came in fourth.  I would have thought being able to use a hunter or lock pet to distract mobs would help, but I don't know how the rogues did it.

First prize was a Maelstrom Crystal from a Baradin Hold pug
Second prize was a Belt Buckle
Third prize was 200g
Forth prize was 100g

Congratulations to all participants and see you all next guild event!

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
